Historically, Yangcheng Evening News has twice initiated the selection. In 1963, it launched the first post-1949 selection, pioneering public participation in choosing the city's iconic scenic spots. In 2011, leveraging the momentum of the Asian Games, Yangcheng Evening News Group organized the "New Top Eight Sights of Guangzhou" poll, drawing over 8.6 million public votes, which is the largest scale since the Song Dynasty.

2025年“羊城八景”评选启动
4月11日下午，2025年“羊城八景”评选活动在广州市文化馆启动，旨在擦亮广州城市新形象，展现其经典魅力与时代活力。此次评选将通过“线上投票+市民参与+专家评审”方式，于8月1日十五运会开幕式倒计时100天，公布评选结果。
“羊城八景”是广州千年IP，评选始于宋朝，历代延续，新中国成立后也历经四次评选。新世纪以来，评选与重要体育赛事紧密相关，2002年、2011年广州借举办九运会、亚运会契机完成两版评选。今年年底，十五运会和残特奥会开幕式将在广州举行，为借此机遇深化城市品牌建设，提升影响力，此次评选活动顺势开展。
历史上，羊城晚报曾两次发起“羊城八景”评选：1963年，羊城晚报发起了新中国成立后首次“羊城八景”评选活动，开创了市民选八景的先河；2011年，紧抓广州亚运会举办契机，羊城晚报报业集团发起“羊城新八景”评选，公众投票超过860万张，创下宋代以来“羊城八景”评选规模之最。
作为此次评选活动的主办单位之一，在启动仪式上，羊城晚报报业集团（羊城晚报社）党委书记、社长任天阳发布了2025年“羊城八景”评选活动方案。任天阳表示，2025年“羊城八景”评选活动启动后，将向全球征集“羊城八景印象故事”，并发动海内外游客和市民参与投票，提升广州的国际影响力和文化传播力。
广州日报报业集团（广州日报社）党委副书记、副社长、总编辑许芳在致辞中表示，通过生动讲好“八景”故事，向世界充分展示岭南文化的源远流长与广州这座城市绵延不绝的创新活力。
