Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone (hereinafter referred to as "Lecheng Pilot Zone"), approved by the State Council in February 2013, is the nation's only industrial park in the medical field dedicated to opening up. Currently, over 30 medical institutions are operational within Lecheng, forming a diverse landscape "led by top-tier public hospitals like Ruijin and West China, featuring specialized domestic and international brands." It has established partnerships with over 180 pharmaceutical and medical device enterprises from more than 20 countries and regions, attracting globally leading companies such as Merck Sharp & Dohme, Sonova, and Gilead to establish registered entities here. As of October 2025, Lecheng has facilitated the "First Use in China" of 523 international innovative drugs and devices, supported the successful market approval of 21 products through Real-World Data (RWD) assisted evaluation, and seen 3 products included in the National Reimbursement Drug List supported by RWD. It is not only China's first pilot zone for RWD research in drugs and medical devices designated by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) but also a crucial hub for global healthcare industry exchange and cooperation.
