Donald Trump has said the US will "take a pass" on brokering further Russia-Ukraine talks if Moscow or Kyiv "make it very difficult" to reach a peace deal.

His comments came hours after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the US would abandon talks unless there were clear signs of progress within days.

"We're not going to continue with this endeavour for weeks and months on end," Rubio said, adding that the US had "other priorities to focus on".

鲁比奥17日在法国巴黎与乌克兰、法国、英国、德国官员就乌克兰问题进行了磋商。他18日离开法国时在机场向媒体表示，就乌克兰问题的谈判不能一直停滞不前，如果短期内看不到俄罗斯和乌克兰达成一致的信号，美方不会继续撮合。

据俄罗斯塔斯社报道，俄罗斯联邦安全会议副主席梅德韦杰夫18日在社交平台X上称：“美国官员表示，如果乌克兰问题没有进展，美国就要撒手不管了。很明智，欧盟也应该这么做。这样的话，俄罗斯会更快解决问题。”

If Europe follows America's lead and distances itself from the conflict in Ukraine, Russia will be able to work things out on its own "faster", Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, wrote on X.

"American officials have said that if there is no progress on the Ukrainian case, the United States will wash its hands of it. Wisely. And the EU should do the same. Then Russia will figure it out faster," he wrote.
