《国家地理杂志》创刊于1888年10月，它由美国的一家非营利科学教育组织——“美国国家地理协会”（National Geographic Society）创办。插图：国家地理杂志封面。National geography explorer collection （pathfinder edition）是该杂志社出版的一套丛书，内容分为两部分：science（科学）和 social studies（社会研究）。其中，科学部分的内容可以细分6个方面，即Animals（动物）、Habitats（环境）、Earth science（地球科学）、Physical science（物质科学）、Space science（空间科学）、Sports & health（运动和健康）。社会研究部分的内容可以细分为3方面，即People & cultures（人和文化）、 U.S. history（美国史）、World History（世界史）。
