On April 16, the Spokesperson of China's Ministry of Commerce responded to a reporter's question regarding U.S. tariff rates on Chinese goods. The spokesperson said: "China has noted that cumulative tariffs under various pretexts on some Chinese exports to the U.S. have reached 245%. This fully exposes that the U.S. has taken the weaponization and instrumentalization of tariffs to irrational extremes. China has previously clarified its position multiple times on the U.S.' unilateral tariff hikes. Regarding such meaningless tariff numbers games by the U.S., China will not engage with them. However, should the U.S. insist on continuing to substantially undermine China's rights and interests, China will resolutely counter and stand ready for a protracted struggle to the end."
