On February 5th, the first working day after the Chinese New Year holiday, Guangdong Province held its inaugural meeting of the new year—the High-Quality Development Conference, outlining a bold vision for the province's economic advancement. The conference showcased the achievements in constructing a modern industrial system in Guangdong, featuring group discussions themed around "Traditional Industries" and "Future Industries" to collectively explore pathways for high-quality development.

The confidence in Guangdong's high-quality development stems from its solid industrial foundation. Historically, traditional industries such as beverage, food production, clothing, and home appliances have generated miraculous rates of economic growth, and today, they continue to serve as the backbone of stable economic performance. Among Guangdong's top ten strategic pillar industries, six are classified as traditional sectors; while most of the 160 industrial products with the highest output nationally also hail from these traditional industries.

In response to questions about whether "traditional industries equate to low-end industries," Guangdong has taken proactive steps. In regions like Shunde in Foshan, Huadu in Guangzhou, and Guzhen Town in Zhongshan, traditional industries are rapidly transitioning through automation, digitization, and intelligent upgrades. Over 10,000 enterprises are undertaking technological renovations and digital transformations. Traditional industries in Guangdong have been transformed and developed with new vitality.

Guangdong has a clear strategy for cultivating new momentum in industrial development, aiming to transform and upgrade traditional sectors. In the past year, the production of new energy vehicles in Guangdong accounted for about 27% of the nation's total, with prominent companies like BYD, GAC, and XPeng rapidly accelerating their growth. The province also leads the country with 44% of industrial robot production, where the advanced "robot-manufacturing robot" production lines can complete a robot assembly in as little as 30 minutes. Additionally, integrated circuit output accounts for 18% of the national total output, with CanSemi achieving mass production from scratch in just 18 months. These impressive statistics illustrate the upward trajectory of Guangdong's new industrial momentum.

In recent years, Guangdong has remained committed to innovation, making strides toward establishing a modern industrial system. Emerging sectors such as integrated circuits, new energy vehicles, advanced displays, new energy storage, low-altitude economy, and bio-medicine are becoming distinctive features of the province's economic advantages, forming the backbone of high-quality development.

Leveraging advantages in computing power, industrial scale, data resources, and application scenarios, Guangdong is positioning itself as a leader in the innovation of the general AI sector, opening up new tracks and seizing the high ground. The data indicates that the core AI industry in Guangdong reached nearly 180 billion yuan in 2023, marking an approximate 18% year-on-year growth. By September 2024, the province had over 1,500 core AI enterprises, including 101 national-level specialized and innovative "little giant" companies.

This year, Guangdong aims to accelerate the construction of several industrial projects, promote the development of relevant pilot cities, and enhance infrastructure such as the Artificial Intelligence Data Center. It will also foster platforms for low-altitude economic development, and develop commercial aerospace industries.

Emerging future industries like future electronic information and intelligent equipment are born at this very moment, set to become the main battleground for redefining advantages. Additionally, foundational scientific centers like the Quantum Science Center of the GBA are beginning to take shape. Guangdong's commitment to high-quality development is unwavering, always striving for progress and excellence.
