今天下午是全国高考英语科目考试。不少网友表示：虽然不考试，但很好奇英语试卷还有没有李华？

1995年，李华首次出现在高考试卷中。当时，他想邀请来自英国的Peter去人民公园野餐。自此后，他就成为高考英语作文的常驻主人公，走过了30年。

Dear Li Hua,

亲爱的李华：

It's that time of year again—the National College Entrance Examination, or Gaokao. This year, have you once again enlisted a new batch of students to help write letters for us, your foreign friends?

又到了一年一度的高考。今年，你是否又请了一批高考生们帮忙，给我们这些外国朋友写小作文呢？

Tell me, my dear friend—after all these years, how is it that you still haven't learned to write a letter in English?

话说，我亲爱的朋友，这么多年过去，你怎么还是不会用英文写信呢？

After all, since 1995, you've been the perennial protagonist of the Gaokao English essay, relying on generation after generation of examinees to write on your behalf. Thirty years ago, you first asked Gaokao candidates to help you pen a letter—an invitation to Peter from the UK for a picnic at People's Park.

毕竟，从1995年开始，你就成为了高考英语作文的常驻主人公，委托一届又一届考生帮忙写信。三十年前，你第一次请高考考生们替你写信，当时是邀请来自英国的Peter去人民公园野餐。

Over the years, your life has grown increasingly international, and your circle of foreign friends has expanded. You’ve traveled abroad, volunteered overseas, helped foreign friends find housing in China, and time and again introduced them to your hometown.

这些年来，你的生活也变得越来越国际化，外国朋友也越来越多：你出国旅游，去国外做志愿者，帮外国友人在中国租房子，一遍又一遍地向外国朋友们介绍着自己的家乡。

Each of these letters tells a unique Chinese story—mirroring the journey of countless young people in China as the country moves closer to the center of the world stage. The desire for connection among youth around the globe continues to push us toward deeper mutual understanding.

这一封封信件里的一个个中国故事，也正是伴随着中国日益走近世界中央，无数中国青年的成长故事。世界青年渴望交流的心声，也一直推进着我们相互理解、相互了解。

So, even though your English hasn't improved much, your network of friends now spans the globe.

因此，虽然你的英文不好，但你的朋友圈已经遍布全球。

Perhaps that's also the hope the Gaokao holds for every student: to gain the ability to communicate with the world, to become active ambassadors of cultural exchange, and to take on the responsibility of fostering global understanding.

或许，这也正是高考对于每一位高考学子的希冀：掌握与世界对话的本领，成为文明交流互鉴活跃的使者，肩负起促进全球相互理解的责任。

It was with this same belief that I chose to learn Chinese, to come to China to study and work, and to become a journalist in international communication. Each day, I deepen my understanding of China—and help more people around the world see a China that is kind, respectable, and full of charm.

也正是因为同样的信念，所以我学习中文，来到中国求学工作，成为了一名国际传播的记者，每一天，我都在不断加深对中国的理解，也让更多人看到了温良可亲、令人起敬、充满魅力的中国。
