AI is already a puppet. It can only function when humans pull the strings. Left to itself it has no intentionality and no will to do anything.

All robots are puppets, although their strings are strings of code, not physical cords.

I think it is plausible that Earth will be governed by a global artificial intelligence. This is exactly what I foretell in my recently published futuristic novel, Destiny of a Free Spirit, I feature the emergence of an artificial intelligence that takes control of the planet and some of the technologies that will exist by then.

Although such an artificial intelligence emerges out of human culture and would, with avatars and humanoid robots that are indistinguishable from actual humans be able to blend in, it would not really be like us at all. It would be the emergence of an entirely new post-biological life form.
