On October 13th, on the eve of World Migratory Bird Day, State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company, guided by the principle of “actively fulfilling social responsibilities and promoting biodiversity conservation”, launched a series of promotional activities under the “State Grid Green Ark Program” public welfare project of State Grid Corporation of China, titled “Shared Spaces:Creating Bird-friendly Cities and Communities”.Staff members visited key ecological areas such as wetlands and scenic spots to carry out World Migratory Bird Day-themed activities - through bird-watching and identification, wetland cleaning, and ecological protection lectures, they vividly popularized knowledge about migratory bird protection to the public, deepening people’s understanding of biodiversity conservation and creating a favorable atmosphere of “humans protecting natural creatures”.
It is reported that World Migratory Bird Day was first established in the Americas in 1993. In 2006, it became a global environmental protection festival jointly initiated by international organizations such as CMS and AEWA, aiming to raise public awareness of the protection of migratory birds and their habitats. The festival is held on the second Saturday of May and October each year to correspond to the peak migration periods of migratory birds in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

On the day of the event, a unique “Nature Classroom” was held at Janyang Lake Wetland in Taizhou City. Janyang Lake Wetland is not only the largest inland wetland in Taizhou but also an important ecological gateway in the southern part of the city. It has now recorded multiple nationally protected migratory bird species such as the yellow-breasted bunting and the white-browed flycatcher, making it a “natural stopover” for migratory birds.
It is reported that during the previous ecological restoration work of Janyang Lake Wetland, to address the safety risks caused by ground elevation and avoid affecting migratory bird activities, State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company replaced 8 12-meter-high poles with 15-meter ones and upgraded 400 meters of bare wires to insulated wires, eliminating the risk of birds accidentally touching the lines from the source.
In the land of Taizhou, where mountains and seas embrace each other, there are countless “ecological spirits” bestowed by nature. Today’s Taizhou not only bears the industrial prosperity of a “manufacturing capital” and continues the profound cultural heritage of a “land of harmony”, but also carefully guards the ecological vitality of a “mountain-sea-water city”.
State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company stated that it will continue to fulfill the mission of empowering green development by State Grid, taking the “State Grid Green Ark Program” project as an important tool, and deeply engage in the field of migratory bird protection in its hometown. It will deepen collaboration with relevant departments and research institutions, optimize customized power solutions, and leverage digital technology to improve power usage efficiency, contributing more to biodiversity conservation and regional ecological development.(By Feng Jing)
