摘要:Challenge of jobs, finding and keeping a job, people said.

We do have technology involved like learning new skills.

我们确实拥有涉及学习新技能的技术。

It can replace jobs as well.

它同样可能取代工作岗位。

It's happening today a lot.

如今这种情况屡见不鲜。

Challenge of jobs, finding and keeping a job, people said.

人们常说,就业的挑战在于找工作和保住工作。

Losing your job is a challenge.

失业本身就是个挑战。

Being laid off where your company lets you go because the economy is so bad.

当公司因经济不景气而裁员时,你可能面临失业。

Stress is a big one.

压力是主要挑战之一。

Let me add, finding or losing.

我再补充一下,找工作或者失业。

Finding and losing a job.

找工作和失业。

'Cause you may also lose your job.

因为你也可能会失业。

Recessions like the economy, right?

还有经济衰退,对吧?

A weak economy is a challenge.

经济疲软本身就是挑战。

Social, well, it's a challenge 'cause we don't have enough money to buy things.

社会方面,挑战在于我们没钱消费。

Social media can be a challenge. Addiction or privacy.

社交媒体也可能成为挑战,比如沉迷网络或隐私问题。

Mental health is a big challenge these days.

如今,心理健康是一大挑战。

I think it always has been.

我觉得一直都是如此。

But people talk about it a lot more.

只是如今人们更常讨论。

Choosing a partner.

择偶问题。

Well, finding a partner, never mind choosing a partner.

准确说是寻找伴侣,更别提择偶了。

Raising children, as you mentioned a lot of you.

还有养育子女,你们很多人都提到了。

Pollution and climate change is also a challenge, right, in our lives today.

污染与气候变化同样是当代生活的挑战。

Staying, well, related to that, staying healthy, I guess, is the other one that we mentioned.

保持健康,这与前文相关,我想也是我们提到的另一项挑战。

So here, just to give you a flavor of the kind of challenges of modern life.

好了,以上只是简要列举现代生活的各类挑战。

Let's move on.

我们继续。

Let's get into the vocabulary.

现在来讲讲词汇。

So I'm just gonna introduce some key vocabulary phrases and collocations, just to remind you, I will give you quite a lot of vocabulary, so you have it as a reference.

我将介绍若干关键词组及相关场景,需提醒的是:我将提供大量词汇供你们参考。

I don't expect you to learn all of this vocabulary.

当然不要求你们全部掌握。

It ... there's too much, right?

内容太多了,是吧?

So don't feel you have to know all of these words.

所以不必强求掌握所有词汇。

You can just choose some of the most important for you, right?

你们可以选择一些对你们来说最重要的来记,好吗?

Let's begin with the word challenge, which is a 'ch' sound.

我们先从 challenge 这个词开始,它以 /tʃæ/ 音开头。

Ch, the stress on the 'ch' or the 'cha' as it says cha, challenge.

Ch,重音在 ch 或者说是 cha 上,读作 /tʃæ/,challenge。

This is a/tʃæ/and this is a/dʒ/.

这个是 /tʃæ/,这个是 /dʒ/。

/tʃæ/, /dʒ/.

/tʃæ/,/dʒ/。

Challenge.

Challenge。

If you can say it with me, a challenge.

可以的话,跟我一起读,a challenge。

This means a difficult situation that needs a lot of effort to do well, right?

这个词指需要付出巨大努力才能应对的困难局面,对吧?

For example, finding a job is a challenge, or finding a job is a real challenge.

比如,找工作是个挑战,或者说找工作真是个不小的挑战。

Collocations, we can say a big challenge.

搭配上,我们可以说,一个大挑战。

And again, I recommend you just repeat with me.

我还是建议大家跟我一起重复。

A big challenge.

一大挑战。

A significant challenge.

一个重大的挑战。

The accent is on the/ɪn/.

重音在 /ɪn/ 上。

一个重大的挑战。

A real challenge.

一个真正的挑战。

A new challenge.

一个新的挑战。

An exciting challenge.

一个激动人心的挑战。

Brilliant. Good.

棒极了。很好。

So notice challenge can be positive and negative, right?

所以注意,challenge 这个词既可以是积极的,也可以是消极的,对吧?

一个重大的挑战。

一个真正的挑战。

It's kind of negative 'cause it's too difficult.

这种情况有点偏消极,因为它太难了。

But a challenge can be excited, can be positive.

但 challenge 也可以是让人激动,积极的。

We can say, a new challenge, an exciting challenge.

我们可以说,一个新的挑战,一个激动人心的挑战。

For example, learning a second language is an exciting challenge.

比如说,学习第二语言就是一项激动人心的挑战。

Learning English is an exciting challenge. I hope.

学习英语是一项激动人心的挑战。但愿如此。

Maybe not for everybody, but let's hope so. So that's it.

也许并非人人都这么觉得,但愿如此。好了,就是这个词。

Challenge.

挑战。

Spot on.

完全正确。

We say it's a challenge to do something.

我们会用“It's a challenge to do something”这个句式。

It's a challenge to, notice the to becomes/tə/.

在“It's a challenge to”这个句式中,注意 to 的发音变成了 /tə/。

It's a challenge to find a job.

找工作是一项挑战。

It's a challenge to give up smoking.

戒烟是一项挑战。

It's a challenge to stay in shape. Okay?

保持身材是一项挑战。明白吗?

So that chunk is really important, and you want to try and repeat that chunk so it sticks.

所以这个句式非常重要,大家要多跟着念几遍,这样才能记得牢。

It's a challenge to, it's a challenge to, it's a challenge to, it's a challenge to wake up in the morning.

多念几遍,“做某事是项挑战”,比如说,早上起床就是一项挑战。

It's a challenge to speak English. No, not for me.

说英语是项挑战。不,这对我来说不算。

It's a challenge to speak French for me. Okay?

对我来说,说法语才是挑战。懂吗?

It's a really useful chunk, right? Notice the grammar here.

这个句式非常有用,对吧?注意这里的语法。

It's a challenge to ...

……是项挑战。

Synonyms of challenge.

Challenge 的近义词。

So these are, when I say synonym, a synonym means a similar meaning.

我们来讲讲它的近义词,所谓近义词,就是指意思相近的词。

It very rarely has the same meaning.

它们的词义极少会完全相同。

Normally, synonyms have a different, slightly different nuance or a different feeling, right?

通常,近义词之间会有细微的差别,或者说给人的感觉会不一样,对吧?

So a struggle is like a challenge, but it's slightly makes it feel like a struggle.

所以,struggle 这个词和 challenge 有点像,但它更强调“挣扎”的感觉。

That it's really hard, right?

也就是说这件事非常难,对吧?

A battle is really, really, really hard to do.

而 battle 则是指非常非常非常难做到的事。

It's even stronger, right?

这个词的语气更重,对吧?

A struggle is like a fight.

Struggle 就像一场战斗。

A battle is is like a war, Battle of the Roses.

而 battle 则像一场战争,比如玫瑰战争。

We can say it's a struggle to stay in shape.

我们可以说“保持身材是一场斗争”。

So in fact, battle and struggle are idiomatic because they don't mean a real fight.

所以实际上,battle 和 struggle 都属于引申用法,因为它们指的不是真正的打斗。

It's more idiomatic.

更偏向于比喻义。

But it's nice to say it's a struggle to stay in shape. Okay?

不过,用“保持身材是一场斗争”这种说法也挺好的。明白吗?

Notice it's the same phrase.

注意,它们的句式是一样的。

It's a challenge to, it's a challenge to, it's a struggle to.

……是项挑战,……是场斗争。

It's a struggle to find a job.

找工作是一场斗争。

It's a struggle to give up smoking.

戒烟是一场斗争。

It's a struggle to prepare for IELTS.

备考雅思是一场斗争。

What do you think?

你怎么看?

What do you find a challenge or a struggle?

对你来说,什么事算得上是挑战或斗争呢?

problem solving is a real challenge you may face.

解决问题,就是你可能会面临的一项真正挑战。

That's true.

确实如此。

Naseem says it's a challenge to get out from your comfort zone.

Naseem 说,走出舒适区是一项挑战。

Very nice. Like it. Good.

说得很好,我喜欢这个说法。不错。

Keith, the "to" I need to pronounce like "te".

基斯,“to”我需要发音成“te”吗?

Kristen, good question. You can pronounce like "te".

Kristen,问得好。你可以发音成 te。

You don't have to, right?

但不是非得这样,对吧?

It's possible to say it's a challenge to give up smoking.

你也可以说“戒烟是一个挑战。”。

We sometimes say that, but not more natural spoken English we say "te", right?

我们有时候也会那么说,但在更自然的英语口语里,我们通常会说 tə,对吧?

So you can rather than need to.

所以是“可以”这么说,而不是“必须”这么说。

It's a challenge to speak in public.

当众讲话是一项挑战。

Pyone, I agree. I agree entirely.

Phyoe,我同意,完全同意。

Let's have a look.

我们来看一下。

Nicola says it's a struggle to save money.

Nicola 说存钱太难了。

Yeah.

没错。

Especially in the recession and the times of austerity, right?

尤其是在经济衰退和财政紧缩时期,对吧?

Here we go.

又来一个。

It's a, oh, it's a challenge to let your love go.

这位说,放下挚爱是一种挑战。

Oh, that's hit home. That's hit me very hard.

哦,这句话说到我心坎里了。触动我心弦。

Paneru, wow. Very, very strong.

Paneru,哇。这个例子,非常,非常有冲击力。

Daniela, it's a struggle to learn English and speak like a native.

Daniela 说,学好英语,说得跟母语者一样,太难了。

Very good example, Monica as well.

很好的例子,Monica 举的例子也很好。

It's struggle to stay in shape after menopause.

绝经后要保持身材太难了。

Yes, that's very, very true.

是的,说得太对了。

I'm not laughing, I just, it caught me by surprise.

我不是在笑,只是……有点出乎意料。

But it's very, very true. I agree entirely.

但说得真的太对了。我完全同意。

At least that's what I'm told. Obviously I don't know.

至少别人是这么跟我说的。我自己当然是不知道的。

But I am told.

但我听人说过。

Just let me help you, Monica.

Monica,我来帮你一下。

It's, you say struggle.

你用的是 struggle 这个词。

Remember, it's a, it's a struggle, right?

记住,前面要加 a,是 a struggle,对吧?

It's a struggle to, to do something.

句式是 “It's a struggle to do something”。

Struggle has verb and noun.

Struggle 既是动词也是名词。

Yes, correct, yes.

是的,没错。

It's a challenge to keep healthy.

保持健康是项挑战。

Great Meral, great.

Meral,说得好,太棒了。

Some really, really good examples there. Nice.

这些例子举得都非常好。不错。

Now we're talking about challenges and problem solving.

好了,现在我们来聊聊挑战与问题解决。

With a problem, we can say a difficulty or an issue.

要表示 problem,我们可以说 a difficulty 或 an issue。

This is a problem.

这是一个问题。

I have a problem. I have a difficulty.

我有个问题。我遇到了困难。

I have an issue. Issue, an issue.

我有个麻烦。Issue,an issue。

I should bring up the thingy for you. The thingy.

我应该给你们说一下这个,这个事情。

The phonetic script, issue.

是 issue 这个词的音标。

'Cause it's a strange one.

因为它的发音有点怪。

In fact, it is pronounced in different ways, right?

事实上,它的发音有好几种,对吧?

In different languages.

在不同的语言里。

Different languages, different American English or British English.

不同的语言,不同的美式或英式英语。

We pronounce it differently.

我们的发音也不一样。

This is the way I would pronounce it.

我是这么发音的。

Issue with a/ʃ/, like shop.

Issue,带一个 /ʃ/的音,就像 shop 里的那个音。

She, shop, shoe and issue.

她,商店,鞋,问题。

That's how as a British person, we would pronounce it, an/ˈɪʃuː/.

作为英国人,我们就是这么发音的 /ˈɪʃuː/。

Stress on the/ɪ/, issue.

重音在/ɪ/ 这个音上,/ˈɪʃuː/。

Okay, good.

好的,不错。

For a problem that you need to deal with so you can progress, we can say, a hurdle, an obstacle, a stumbling block, or a setback?

如果一个问题,你必须解决它才能继续前进,那我们可以称之为一个障碍、一个难题、一个绊脚石,还是一个挫折?

So these are also synonyms.

所以这些也都是同义词。

Okay, let me put it all on one page to make it clearer.

好了,我把它们都放到同一页上,这样更清楚些。

But they're not exactly the same meaning, they're a similar meaning.

但它们的意思不完全一样,只是相近而已。

These synonyms are more about a small problem you need to deal with, so you can make progress.

这些同义词,更多指的是那种为了取得进展而必须解决的小问题。

So you can make progress.

这样你才能继续前进。

Let's make it problem.

我们把它称作“问题”吧。

Again, these are, these are meta, these are idiomatic.

再说一遍,这些词的含义比较微妙,都属于习语。

Because a hurdle, if you are watching the Olympic games, you will have seen, right, the hurdle.

因为 hurdle 这个词,你要是看过奥运会,肯定见过,对吧,就是跨栏。

Let me show you over here in Google. Google Images.

我用谷歌给你们搜一下。谷歌图片。

So these are hurdles. This is 100-meter hurdle race.

看,这些就是跨栏。这是百米跨栏比赛。

Hurdles are things you have to jump over.

跨栏就是你必须跳过去的东西。

So when we talk about a problem is a hurdle, it's the idea you need to deal with it to make progress, you need to get over it.

所以当我们说一个问题是个 hurdle 时,意思就是你得解决它才能继续前进,你得克服它。

Obstacle, the same, some kind of hurdle.

Obstacle 这个词也一样,指的是某种障碍。

Stumbling block. To stumble is to fall.

Stumbling block。Stumble 的意思是绊倒。

So a stumbling block is something that makes you trip, makes you fall.

所以 stumbling block 就是会把你绊倒的东西。

Anything, you know, you're walking in the street and you hit something, boom, you fall over.

任何东西都可能,比如你在街上走着,撞上个什么东西,“砰”一下,就摔倒了。

That's the stumbling block.

那就是绊脚石。

It's just something makes you fall.

就是会让你摔跤的东西。

So the idea of a hurdle, an obstacle, a stumbling block are things that are gonna make you fall.

所以,障碍、难题、绊脚石,这些词都指会让你摔跟头的东西。

You have to go over, right?

你得跨过去,对吧?

So they are similar to problems basically.

所以它们的意思基本上都和“问题”差不多。

Or a setback.

我们再来看一个词:setback。

A setback is something that pushes you back.

Setback 是指让你倒退的东西。

So it's even stronger.

所以这个词的程度更深。

So we can say, for example, the biggest hurdle to learning English is the grammar, right?

所以我们可以说,比如,学英语最大的障碍是语法,对吧?

Notice this construction, again, the biggest hurdle to doing something, it's a challenge to, the biggest hurdle to learning English is the grammar.

注意这个句式,我再说一遍,“the biggest hurdle to doing something”,就相当于说“做某事是个挑战”。比如,学英语最大的障碍就是语法。

The biggest hurdle to practicing is finding a speaking partner.

练习口语最大的障碍是找不到语伴。

The biggest hurdle to cooking well is finding good ingredients or finding a good cookbook.

做好饭最大的障碍是找不到好食材或者好菜谱。

Okay? So again, synonyms that we can use.

明白吧?所以,这些都是我们可以用的同义词。

Excuse me.

不好意思。

Let's see.

一起看看。

Pallvi says, IELTS reading is a real challenge for me? Yes.

Pallvi 说,雅思阅读对我来说真是个挑战?是的。

When the progress, yeah, when it's a verb, you stress the second one, Nicola.

当 progress,对,当它作动词的时候,重音在第二个音节上,Nicola。

Progress.

Progress。

IELTS reading is a challenge for me.

雅思阅读对我来说是个挑战。

It's a challenge to, I'm going to UK, right?

你写的是“It’s a challenge to”,然后后面跟了“I’m going to UK”,对吗?

This is interesting.

这个有意思。

So after it's a challenge to, you must have a verb, right?

所以在“it's a challenge to”后面,必须跟一个动词,对吧?

You need to put a verb there.

你得在后面加个动词。

So let me help you Jannatul, here.

Jannatul,我来帮你改一下。

It's a challenge to, it's a challenge to go to.

应该是 It's a challenge to go to。

It's a challenge to go to the UK for my master's degree.

去英国读硕士对我来说是个挑战。

It's a great example.

这个例子很好。

Just remember to plus the verb. Yeah.

记住 to 后面要加动词就行。好吧。

Hi Phyoe Zaw.

你好,Phyoe Zaw。

If I pronounce it correctly, the biggest setback to learning English is the pronunciation.

希望我没念错你的名字。你写道:“学英语最大的挫折是发音。”

Brilliant. That is a lovely example.

太棒了!这个例子举得真好。

'Cause you've taken the, this idea, the biggest hurdle, the biggest setback.

因为你用了这个句式,“最大的障碍”、“最大的挫折”。

Brilliant.

太棒了。

Love it. Well done.

说得太好了,干得漂亮。

Julia says, inflation is a stumbling block for me.

Julia 说,通货膨胀是我的绊脚石。

Soared up to 40%. Wow.

飙升到 40%。哇。

Seriously, 40%.

不是吧,40%?

Are you in Myanmar Julia?

Julia,你在缅甸吗?

Again, I'm just helping you here.

再说一下,我只是帮你看看句子。

I would separate two phrases.

我会把这句话拆成两句。

Inflation is a stumbling block for me.

通货膨胀对我来说是个绊脚石。

It's soared up to 40% nowadays. Right?

现在都涨到 40% 了,是不是?

Nice.

好的。

Brian says, the biggest setback to learning Chinese is recognizing the characters.

Brian 说,学中文最大的障碍就是认汉字。

I agree wholeheartedly.

我完全同意。

Pappu says, I don't know English, but I try to learn.

Pappu 说,我不会英语,但我正努力学呢。

Great Pappu, well done. Keep going.

Pappu,好样的,干得不错。继续加油。

Let's see, what else have we got?

我看看啊,还有别的吗?

Anyone else? One more.

还有人吗?再来一个。

Got a nice one here.

这儿有个挺好的例子。

The biggest hurdle to getting visa is convincing the visa officer.

办签证最大的障碍是说服签证官。

Yes, your interview is crucial, right?

是啊,面试可是关键环节,对吧?

Yeah, very, very good.

嗯,说得非常非常好。

As well, Pirasanth, let me just help you.

另外,Pirasanth,我来帮你纠正一下。

The biggest hurdle to getting a visa is convincing the visa officer.

办签证最大的障碍是说服签证官。

So you just need to add 'a' and 'the' and you have a perfect sentence.

所以你只需要加上“a”和“the”,这个句子就完美了。

Very, very nice.

非常非常棒。

Well done. Excellent.

干得好。太棒了。

So we've seen synonyms.

好了,我们刚看了一些同义词。

Here's another one.

现在再来看一个。

A snag. Now, a snag is a really interesting word.

Snag。Snag 这个词真的很有意思。

It's more informal, but a snag is a small problem in something that is mostly good.

这个词比较口语化,snag 指的是大体上都很好,但就是有个小问题。

So where you have a situation and everything's great, but there's a small problem, just one thing that is a snag.

就是说,在一种情况下,一切都很完美,但偏偏出了个小问题,这个小问题就是 snag。

Okay? A snag.

明白吗?Snag。

What a great word. Sounds like a snail.

这词真棒。听起来像 snail(蜗牛)。

A snag. I have a snag.

Snag。我遇到了一个障碍。

And the small problem is ... , for example, right?

那个小问题就是……,举个例子,对吧?

Let's take learning to drive is quite easy, right?

比如,学开车挺容易的,对吧?

I mean, yeah, changing gears for me is easy.

对我来说,换挡很简单。

Using the accelerator and the brake is easy.

踩油门和刹车也很简单。

The only snag is parking.

唯一的小麻烦就是停车。

I find parking very difficult.

我觉得停车太难了。

唯一的小麻烦就是停车。

Learning to drive is easy. The only snag is parking.

学开车很简单,唯一的小麻烦就是停车。

Learning to speak English is easy.

学说英语很简单。

The only snag is the grammar.

唯一的小麻烦就是语法。

And the pronunciation and the vocabulary.

还有发音和词汇。

Oh, and the fluency.

还有流利度。

Another example.

再举个例子。

He fixed my phone.

他修好了我的手机。

The only snag is now the battery is dead. Right?

唯一的小麻烦是,现在电池不行了。对吧?

It's a small problem in a situation where most things are good.

就是一个在大体上都很好的情况下,出现的小问题。

Okay, great.

好的,很棒。

So we've got all of these synonyms, a snag.

所以我们学了所有这些同义词,snag 就是其中一个。

Okay, moving on.

好了,我们继续。

We talk about facing a challenge and rising to the challenge.

我们来讲讲“面对挑战”和“迎接挑战”。

So to face a challenge is to, well, right, here's the challenge, here's the face, right?

所以“面对挑战”就是,你看,这是挑战,这是脸,对吧?

It's to look at is, is not, is not to avoid say, no, no, no, no, no problem.

意思就是直面它,而不是逃避,说“不不不,没问题”。

It's to look at and tackle. To tackle the challenge.

而是要正视并着手解决。解决这个挑战。

To look at the challenge to face, to face the challenge.

正视挑战,面对挑战。

Okay? You can face a problem, face a hurdle.

明白吗?你可以“面对一个问题”,“面对一个障碍”。

Now face a challenge.

直面一个挑战。

You can link, practice this with me.

来,跟我一起练习。

Face a challenge.

面对挑战。

Face a problem.

面对问题。

Face a hurdle.

面对难关。

Face a obstacle.

面对障碍。

Face a setback.

面对挫折。

Hey, pronunciation is not a challenge for you.

我看发音对你来说根本不算挑战。

I can see.

我看出来了。

So to face, for example, teenagers face many challenges these days.

所以 face 这个词,举个例子,如今的青少年就面临着许多挑战。

I have faced a lot of obstacles in my career.

我的职业生涯中遇到过很多障碍。

Okay, so to face something.

好的,所以 to face something 就是指面对某件事。

To face, is it to experience?

To face,是“经历”的意思吗?

It's more than experience.

它的意思不止是“经历”那么简单。

It's actually proactively trying to solve.

它其实还有主动尝试解决的意思。

Yep. So it's similar but it's more than that.

没错。所以意思相近,但内涵更丰富。

Roro says, we've planned the entire trip, but the only snag is that our flight got delayed.

Roro 说,我们计划好了整个行程,唯一的小麻烦是航班延误了。

Roro Riri, perfect. I like it very, very much.

Roro Riri,太棒了。我非常喜欢这个例子。

Yes.

没错。

Christian says face challenge.

Christian 说了 face challenge。

It makes perfect sense.

这个说法完全讲得通。

My first language says like this as well. Yeah, I think so.

我的母语里也是这么说的。嗯,我想是的。

Yes.

是的。

Streaming on YouTube is easy these days.

如今在 YouTube 上直播很简单。

The only snag now is waiting for a microphone to arrive.

现在唯一的小麻烦就是等麦克风到货。

You've bought one, I guess, right?

你已经买了吧,我猜得没错吧?

Lan, to face is to deal with.

Lan 说,to face 就是“应对”的意思。

Nice. Yes.

说得好,没错。

I like it. That's a perfect way to say it.

我喜欢这个解释。这么解释再恰当不过了。

Perfect. You are a better teacher than me.

太棒了,你比我教得还好。

This is why I love my students, 'cause you help.

所以我才这么爱我的学生们,因为大家会互相帮助。

We are learning together.

我们在一起共同学习。

Metilda, Metildamercy, I faced many problems in my family life.

Metilda Metildamercy,说我的家庭生活遇到了很多问题。

Right? Great.

没错,这个例子很棒。

Bessaa says, face the challenge. Don't put your head in the sand.

Bessaa 说,直面挑战。不要把头埋在沙子里(意指逃避现实)。

That's a lovely expression, right?

这个表达很形象,对吧?

So to face is to look at, put your head in the sand is to ignore and it's a really nice idiom.

所以,face 就是正视问题,而'把头埋进沙子'就是逃避现实,这是个很不错的习语。

Bessaa Brahim, thank you so much for that.

Bessaa Brahim,非常感谢你的分享。

That's great. Okay.

太棒了。好的。

To rise to the challenge is not only to deal with, but it's more than that.

To rise to the challenge 不仅仅是“应对”,它的含义更丰富。

It's to be willing to try and do it. Okay?

它指的是愿意尝试并付诸行动。明白吗?

So it's the idea, the challenge is here, you are here and you can face the challenge.

可以这么理解:挑战在这里,你在这里,你可以去 face the challenge (面对挑战)。

But if you rise, you are, you are putting in lots of effort, right?

但如果你 rise (挺身而出),你是在付出巨大的努力,对吧?

To rise to the challenge is to get up, to roll up your sleeves and to get ready to fight the challenge, to rise to the challenge.

To rise to the challenge 的意思就是站起来、卷起袖子,准备好迎战,也就是奋起迎接挑战。

So it's even more positive than to face.

所以这个说法比 to face 更积极。

To rise to the, it, you must have to and you must have the.

注意,这个短语是 rise to the challenge,to 和 the 都不能少。

To rise to the challenge.

迎接挑战。

For example, it's not easy for her to stop smoking, but I'm sure she will rise to the challenge, right?

比如说,戒烟对她来说不容易,但我相信她能迎难而上,对吧?

She will try and do it.

她会努力的。

Excellent, good.

太棒了,说得好。

Mayrush says, I have faced a lot of obstacles to speak fluently.

Mayrush 说,为了能说一口流利的英语,我遇到了很多障碍。

Great. Although I hope we are helping you today.

太好了。希望我们今天能帮上你的忙。

Alexander says, I faced a lot of obstacles to register the land around my house.

Alexander 说,给我家周围的土地办理登记时,我遇到了重重阻碍。

Let me guess, Alexander, government bureaucracy, right?

Alexander,让我猜猜,是政府那套官僚作风,对吧?

The difference between deal with and cope with.

Deal with 和 cope with 的区别。

They are very, very, very similar. Very similar.

它们非常、非常、非常相似,极其相似。

Meaning cope with, oh it's, it's a slightly different feeling.

至于 cope with,它给人的感觉略有不同。

And I'm not sure how to explain.

我也不太确定该怎么解释。

Cope with the feeling is that there is more pressure.

用 cope with 的时候,通常意味着压力更大。

If I deal with a problem, there's not a lot of pressure, there's a problem, I can deal with it.

如果我用 deal with,就表示压力没那么大,只是有个问题而已,我能搞定。

Cope with the feeling is, wow, this is a big problem.

而 cope with 给人的感觉是,哇,这问题可大了。

A lot of pressure. I can't cope.

很大的压力。我真顶不住了。

Right? I can't handle it.

对吧?我搞不定了。

So it's a slightly different feeling.

所以它们在语感上还是有细微差别的。

Mon Mon Aung says I face sleeping problems every night 'cause I have so many assignments.

Mon Mon Aung 说,我每晚都睡不好觉,因为作业实在是太多了。

Right. Excellent.

这个句子用得很好。

Good. Sorry.

用得不错。但真同情你。

Excellent English. Terrible problem.

英语说得真棒。问题真棘手。

This is a nice one, Anna.

Anna,这个例子不错。

It's not easy to relocate to another country, but I will rise to the challenge.

移居到另一个国家很不容易,但我会迎难而上。

Perfect. Nice.

太完美了,说得好。

非常非常好。

Excellent. Good.

太棒了,说得好。

So we've got all these synonyms, right?

所以我们现在学了这些同义词,对吧?

Of challenge and synonyms of problem.

也就是 challenge 和 problem 的同义词。

We've got ways of facing a challenge.

我们还学了如何面对挑战。

Rising to the challenge.

迎接挑战。

Let's talk about the solution, right?

那我们再来谈谈解决方法吧。

The solution is to overcome a challenge.

解决方法就是“克服挑战”。

That means to succeed, to overcome a challenge.

克服挑战,就意味着成功。

I faced many challenges when I moved here, but I overcame most of them.

我刚搬来这里时遇到了很多挑战,但我克服了其中大部分。

That's true, right?

这可是我的亲身经历,对吧?

When I, some of you may know, about six years ago, I moved to Spain and I faced, I faced some challenges.

大约六年前,可能有些人知道,我搬到了西班牙,然后遇到了一些挑战。

One was I for, I had forgot a lot of my Spanish, two was I had forgot a lot of the culture in Spain.

比如,我把西班牙语忘得差不多了;另外,对西班牙的很多文化也生疏了。

Simple things like kissing on the cheeks, things like the food, things like paying in the bar at the end, not at the beginning.

都是些小事,比如贴面礼、饮食习惯,还有在酒吧不是一来就买单,而是走的时候才结账。

And also making friends.

还有就是交朋友。

Moving to a new country, making friends, especially as you get older is more difficult.

移居异国后结交朋友,尤其随着年龄增长会更困难。

So I faced many challenges, but I think I overcame most of them.

所以我遇到了很多挑战,但我觉得自己基本上都克服了。

So to overcame, to solve, right, or succeed.

所以 overcome 就是解决,对吧,或者说成功的意思。

I think I overcame most of them.

我认为自己已攻克了多数难关。

So notice to overcome.

所以要注意 overcome 这个词。

So come, you know, the past came, I overcame in the past.

比如 come,你们知道,它的过去式是 came,所以我用的 I overcame 是过去式。

If you say a problem, we say to solve a problem.

如果说的是 problem,我们就会用 solve a problem。

So to overcome a challenge, to solve a problem, to find a solution.

所以搭配就是:克服挑战,解决问题,找到解决方案。

We can also say to sort or to fix, right?

我们也可以说 sort 或者 fix,对吧?

In this case to, so to sort a problem. To fix a problem.

在这个语境下,to sort a problem 就是解决问题、处理麻烦的意思。

For example, my brother is good at sorting financial problems.

比如,我哥哥很擅长处理财务问题。

He's good at sorting financial problems.

他很擅长处理财务问题。

I can't sort this problem. I can't fix this problem.

我解决不了这个问题,也处理不了这个问题。

I'm trying to think of a problem I couldn't fix.

让我想想有什么问题是我搞不定的。

Yes.

嗯。

One problem that was very hard to sort when I came to Spain was my banking credit history.

我刚来西班牙时,有个问题特别难搞,就是我的银行信用记录。

'Cause I had no history in Spain.

因为我在西班牙没有任何信用记录。

So that was a difficult challenge to, it was a problem.

所以那是个不小的挑战,是个大难题。

It was a difficult problem to sort or to fix. Okay.

一个很难解决或者处理的问题。好了。

Ramin 问,overcome a challenge 这个说法适合书面语吗?

Yes, absolutely. Yes.

当然,完全可以。是的。

我需要制定我的人生计划,并努力迎接挑战。

Yeah. Yeah.

嗯,不错。

To make your life plan, I would say.

我会说,用“制定”你的人生计划会更好。

学了很多单词,也做了不少练习。
