The Hunan Department of Commerce and the Guanghzou Port Group inked a strategic cooperation agreement in Changsha on March 25, focusing on constructing a "New Hunan-Guangdong Silk Road Freight Corridor." The two sides will join forces to build a high-efficiency rail-sea intermodal transport network linking the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and covering the central and western regions of China.

The signing of this agreement indicates that the construction of the Hunan-Guangdong international logistics system has entered a new phase featuring two-way connectivity and digital-intelligent upgrading.

As agreed, the two sides will pursue the core goal of "constructing the New Hunan-Guangdong Silk Road Freight Corridor." Leveraging the cooperation framework of Hunan's five major international trade channels, a high-efficiency rail-sea intermodal network will be established, centered on the Zhuzhou railway hub, supported by Hengyang and Chenzhou, and linked with Changsha and Yueyang. Ultimately, the network will cover the whole of Hunan Province and extend its reach to central and western China. This will boost the establishment of a networked, interconnected, and intelligent international logistics channel system in Hunan, building the province into a core driving force for opening up in the central and western regions of China.

Launched in 2021, the Hunan-Guangdong-Africa rail-sea intermodal transport service has operated 1,200 freight train trips through the sustained expansion of capacity and improvement of efficiency at the Zhuzhou hub, with its service coverage extending to the inland ports along the Yangtze River Economic Belt. This will advance standardized intermodal transport, integrated customs clearance services, and intelligent digital platforms to enhance port resource sharing, economic synergy, and coordinated policy innovations between Hunan and Guangdong provinces. The transport service will forge a southbound maritime pathway covering the central and southern regions of China, establishing a new Asia-Africa-Europe land-sea route with Hunan as the foothold, connected with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and dovetailed with the Belt and Road Initiative.

Guangzhou Port is the largest comprehensive hub port in South China. The Guangzhou Port Group as the main operator of the port, manages 39 China-Europe (Asia), interprovincial, and intercity sea-rail intermodal freight routes, while operating more than 170 shipment routes serving international trade. With this support, Hunan's cargo can be transported to main ports around the globe through its Nansha Port, greatly facilitating Hunan enterprises in building high-quality, cost-efficient, and time-sensitive international supply chains.
