On January 2nd, State Grid Kuitun Power Supply Company dispatched its personnel to conduct a final inspection of the newly operational 220kV transmission line project from Xiayedi to Shihezi West Substation, ensuring seamless integration and addressing any outstanding construction issues. This marked the second successful grid integration project following the earlier launch of the 220kV Xiayedi to Shihezi East Substation transmission line on December 5th, 2023.
In recent years, State Grid Kuitun Power Supply Company has prioritized building a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system, driving innovation in both energy production and consumption. This commitment extended to promoting green practices across various sectors and spearheading the development of the Shihezi 750kV Substation. These efforts supported Shihezi’s renewable energy growth and industrial transformation, contributing significantly to the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, particularly its power sector, and enhancing electricity access and satisfaction for the local multi-ethnic population.
It is reported that the project, which officially went into operation on December 28th, 2024, spanned a total of 23.693 kilometers and comprised 82 steel towers. “The project broke ground in April 2024 and lasted for 294 days. Our team stuck together and overcame numerous challenges, always prioritizing safety and quality to lay a solid foundation for the successful operation of the project,” stated Project Manager Liu Ziyu.
This new infrastructure significantly increased Shihezi’s power grid capacity, meeting rising demand and optimizing power distribution between the Phoenix and Liumaowan 750kV Substations. This alleviated pressure on the Phoenix Substation, reducing short-circuit currents and ensuring grid stability and efficiency. The project also supported regional pollution control efforts, aligning with the “Urumqi-Changji-Shihezi” and “Kuitun-Dushanzi-Wusu” clean air and coal reduction initiatives, and advanced China’s national strategy for developing large-scale wind and solar energy bases in desert, Gobi, and arid regions, bolstering Xinjiang’s renewable energy development.
Given the project’s complexity, participating units adhered to a “safety first, quality foremost, efficiency prioritized, and collaboration” approach. Optimized construction plans and rigorous safety management mitigated risks, while efficient resource allocation and strict quality control maximized both construction efficiency and infrastructure quality. The successful commissioning of this project optimized regional power resource allocation, ensuring a stable and reliable electricity supply that fueled economic growth in Shihezi, Shawan, and surrounding areas, while also improving a more secure and reliable power supply for local residents.(By Liu Ziyu)
