On October 17, the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) held an expert meeting in Beijing to kickoff the drafting of its 2026 Flagship Report "Sustainable Development: Asia and the World Annual Report." Mr. Zhang Jun, BFA Secretary General, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, former UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCAP, Dr. Erik Berglof, Chief Economist of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Mr. Li Baosen, Deputy Secretary General of Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization, Mr. Xiao Jinyu, President of Economic and Technology Research Institute of GEIDCO, Mr. Guan Xiupeng, Deputy Director General of the Secretariat of GEIDCO, and Mr. Martin Hu, Managing Partner on Climate Change and Sustainability of Deloitte China attended.
Secretary-General Zhang Jun emphasized that the "Sustainable Development: Asia and the World Annual Report 2026" should be grounded in Asia amid the significant global transformation. He stressed the report should conduct in-depth research on the new trends, challenges, and opportunities for sustainable development in Asia, summarize replicable and scalable development pathways with Asian characteristics, and propose forward-looking and actionable solutions, thereby tapping into the pool of Asian wisdom and solutions for global sustainable development.
Following fruitful discussion among the participating experts and scholars on the report’s scope and focus, which yielded a range of constructive recommendations, the writing team officially commenced the drafting process.
