My name is Lisa, and I am a 14-year-old junior high student. I live near my school, so I usually walk there every morning instead of taking a bus.
I go to school from Monday to Friday, and each day brings something new and exciting. Every morning, I get up at 6:30, fold my quilt neatly, and then have a quick breakfast with my family. My mom often makes toast and milk for us, which tastes warm and delicious. After breakfast, I put my textbooks and notebooks into my schoolbag and head to school with my neighbor, Tom—we’ve been walking together since we were in primary school.
Our first class starts at 8:00, and it’s usually Chinese or Math. My favorite subject is English, though, because it helps me talk with people from other countries and learn about different cultures. Last week, our English teacher organized a speech contest, and I spent three evenings practicing my speech about “My Dream.” In the end, I won the third prize, and my classmates cheered loudly for me—this made me feel really proud.
After class, I often play basketball with my friends on the playground. Sometimes we also play badminton if the weather is nice. Now, as autumn comes, the leaves on the playground trees turn yellow, and my deskmate Lucy is always drawing a picture of this beautiful scene in her notebook during break time. She’s very good at drawing, and I often ask her to teach me some simple skills.
Yesterday afternoon, while I was reading a storybook in the classroom during the long break, my teacher Ms. Wang came in with a pile of new storybooks. She said they were donated by a local library and told us we could borrow one each week. I picked a book about adventure, and I’ve already read three chapters of it—it’s so interesting that I can’t put it down. I have learned English for three years now, and I can also read simple English storybooks, which makes my after-school time more fun.
Next month, our school will hold a sports meeting, and all classes are busy preparing for it. I am going to join the 100-meter race because I like running and I practice every evening after finishing my homework. My PE teacher told me I need to keep exercising to improve my speed, so I’ve made a small plan to run for 20 minutes each day. Besides the race, our class will also take part in the group jump-rope competition, and we practice together every Friday afternoon after class.
English is more interesting than math for me, but I still work hard at math because my teacher says it’s important for daily life. Tom’s favorite subject is Science—he loves doing experiments in class, like mixing different liquids to see what happens. My friend Tom’s English score is higher than mine, so he often helps me with my grammar after school. I’m grateful for his help, and I hope I can catch up with him soon.
The book that my mother bought me last week is very interesting. It’s about a girl who travels around the world with her parents, and it has many beautiful photos. I think school life is not only busy but also happy—even when we have a lot of homework, we can still find time to laugh and play with friends. Last Friday, we had a small party in class to celebrate our classmate Lily’s birthday, and everyone brought a small gift for her.
Our classroom is bigger than the library’s reading room, and it’s always clean and bright because we take turns cleaning it every day. The playground is the largest place in our school, and it’s where we have our PE classes and play during breaks. My teacher tells us to finish homework on time every day, and she also reminds us to get enough sleep so we can stay energetic in class. I usually finish my homework by 8:30 in the evening, then read for 30 minutes before going to bed.
I must try my best to make more wonderful memories here. This term, I’ve made more friends than last term, and I feel happier than before. Some students in my class like singing, and others enjoy dancing—last month, we had a talent show, and many classmates showed their amazing skills. I sang a short English song, and even though I was a little nervous, the audience clapped for me.
Our classroom is cleaned every afternoon by us, and we always make sure to put our chairs on the desks so the floor can be mopped easily. We should listen to our teachers carefully in class, not only because it helps us learn more but also because it shows respect to them. Last week, Ms. Wang was sick, but she still came to class to teach us—this made all of us very touched.
There is a new library in our school, and there are some interesting books in it. I often go there after class to borrow books, and the librarian, Mr. Li, is always very kind to help me find the books I want. Sometimes I also read newspapers there to learn about what’s happening around the world. I love my school life, and I’m looking forward to all the fun things that will happen next!
