On 19th September 2025, the First General Assembly of the Global Pearl Development Community (GPC) was convened in the Hong Kong SAR. The event was hosted by the GPC, and co-organized by Hainan GN Pearl Technology Inc., Yee On (Group) Ltd., Zhejiang Dongfangshenzhou Pearl Group Co., Ltd., and Fukui Shell Nucleus Factory Ltd.

The event brought together major international, national, and regional organizations — including the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO), the Gems & Jewelry Trade Association of China (GAC), the Hong Kong Jewellery Manufacturers’ Association (HKJMA), the Hong Kong Pearl Association (HKPA), the Tahitian Pearl Association Hong Kong (TPAHK), the Japan Pearl Promotion Society (JPPS), the Myanmar South Sea Pearl Producers Association (MSPA), and the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA) — alongside leading enterprises such as Autore Pearls Pty Ltd., Paspaley Pearling Company Pty Ltd., and The Sustainable Value Generator (Australia); Beijing Hongqiao Market Co., Ltd., Hainan GN Pearl Technology Inc., Hainan Heren Pearl Stock Corporation, Hainan Meiyu Jewelry Co., Ltd., National Gems and Jewelry Testing Co. Ltd., and Zhejiang Dongfangshenzhou Pearl Group Co., Ltd. (China); Fukui Shell Nucleus Factory Ltd., Hong Kong Heng Mei Pearl Group Ltd., and Yee On (Group) Ltd. (Hong Kong SAR); Tahiti Perles (French Polynesia); PT Autore Pearl Culture (Indonesia); Annawar Pearl Co., Ltd., Myanmar Atlantic Co., Ltd., and Myanmar Pearl Enterprise (Myanmar); Jewelmer Group (Philippines); and QSEN Jewelry (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (Thailand). In total, more than 50 representatives from ten countries and regions attended the event.
Dr Gaetano CAVALIERI, President of the CIBJO, attended and delivered a keynote address. He fully affirmed the importance of the GPC’s establishment and its far-reaching significance for the global pearl industry, expressing his strong expectation for deeper cooperation with the GPC to jointly advance the sector to new heights.
The General Assembly reported on the GPC’s preparatory work, reviewed and adopted the Statutes of the GPC, approved the list of GPC members, and elected its officers, including the President, Vice Presidents, Directors, Secretary-General, and Deputies Secretary-General. Furthermore, the meeting adopted the GPC Work Plan, identifying priorities in resource coordination, market expansion, standardization, market regulation, trade policy research, and brand building.
It was emphasized that the establishment of the GPC represents a significant milestone for the pearl industry as it advances towards greater internationalization, sustainability, and high-quality growth. The GPC aims to foster collaboration and upgrade across the sector, enhance industrial resilience and stability, and build a cooperative platform for extensive consultation, joint contribution, shared benefits, and mutual success. To achieve this, it will synergize global pearl industry resources and encourage close collaboration among its members in areas such as technological innovation, industrial upgrading, self-regulation, brand development, and sustainable practices. Together, members will open up diverse market opportunities and cultural experiences, enabling consumers worldwide to enjoy pearl products of higher quality and greater trustworthiness.
Representatives exchanged views on the global pearl market, the development of Chinese domestic industry, import and export dynamics, favourable policies, business environment, technological innovation, and cultural promotion and outreach. Multiple consensuses were reached. The morning Segment was presided over by Ms. MENG Xiaojun, Chief Economist of the National Gems and Jewelry Testing Co. Ltd., China, while the afternoon Segment was presided over by Mr. ZHAN Weijian, Vice President of the Gems & Jewellery Trade Association of China and Chairman of the Zhejiang Dongfangshenzhou Pearl Group Co., Ltd.
It is reported that the GPC was jointly initiated by Chinese organizations and enterprises alongside influential industry institutions from eight other countries and regions. It stands as the first international organization in the pearl sector with both wide representation and professional expertise. Its members cover nine countries and regions worldwide, encompassing both freshwater and saltwater cultured pearls, and account for approximately 80% of the global preal production.
The establishment of the GPC marks the start of a new stage of synergistic growth and win–win cooperation, opening a new chapter in the development of the global pearl industry. By synergizing international resources, the GPC is committed to steering the sector towards greater standardization, sustainability, and high-quality development, ultimately achieving mutual benefit worldwide.
The initiative has already gained widespread support from the international pearl community as well as from numerous national and regional organizations. There is a general consensus that the launch of the GPC is timely and highly significant, many express strong expectations that under the GPC’s coordination, the industry will continue to progress, enhance its global competitiveness and influence, and enable the pearl sector to shine with even greater brilliance in the new era.
