Recently, Xuchang area has experienced continuous rainfall, which poses a challenge to the safe and stable operation of the power grid. To ensure reliable power supply during the flood season, State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company has taken proactive measures, organizing transmission operation and maintenance personnel to conduct special inspections on key lines and sections within its jurisdiction. It has made full use of the “manual + UAV” collaborative inspection mode to promptly identify and eliminate potential safety hazards.

During the rainfall period, roads in some areas were muddy, causing inconvenience to traditional manual inspections. Overcoming these difficulties, the company’s transmission operation and maintenance personnel focused on carefully inspecting tower foundations, slope protection works, and drainage facilities in low-lying areas prone to rainwater erosion, ensuring the stability of the tower foundations. At the same time, staff operated UAVs to fly accurately, capturing high-definition close-up images of high-altitude equipment such as conductors, insulators, and hardware fittings, and carefully checking for potential defects like foreign objects hanging or loose components caused by wind and rain.

“UAVs can quickly cover large areas, especially places that are difficult for personnel to reach, greatly improving the efficiency and accuracy of inspections. When combined with the detailed inspections by ground personnel, this forms a double guarantee,” said the person in charge of the Operation and Maintenance Department. During the inspection, operation and maintenance personnel immediately addressed any general hidden dangers found. For defects requiring further maintenance, they recorded details thoroughly and included them in subsequent rectification plans, forming a closed-loop management process.

Through this special inspection, State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company has effectively gained a clear understanding of the operating status of the transmission lines under its jurisdiction after continuous rainfall.
