摘要:我知道你有 YouTube,因为你现在正在 YouTube 上观看我的视频。

I'm an English teacher and this is my favorite exercise for improving vocabulary.

我是英语老师,这是我最喜欢的提升词汇量的练习。

It's fun, it's free, and it's easy.

它很有趣,免费,而且很简单。

Let's go.

我们开始吧。

Today I'm going to teach you one simple exercise.

今天我要教你一个简单的练习。

All you need is your voice and YouTube.

你只需要你的声音和 YouTube。

And I know you have Youtube because you're watching me on Youtube right now.

我知道你有 YouTube,因为你现在正在 YouTube 上观看我的视频。

In this video, we're going to do the exercise together so I can show you exactly how to do it.

在这个视频中,我们将一起做这个练习,这样我可以准确地向你展示如何操作。

But after that, you can do on your own without a teacher.

之后,你就可以自己独立完成了,不需要老师。

You're welcome.

不客气。

If you feel like you struggle to understand native speakers, I have the perfect thing for you.

如果你觉得理解英语母语人士很吃力,我这里有一个非常适合你的东西。

We've made a course specifically designed to unlock advanced English listening skills, ten hour long conversations with ten people who have very different U, K and styles of speech.

我们制作了一门专门用来提升高级英语听力技能的课程,包含 10 个小时的对话,对话者是 10 个拥有不同美式、英式和讲话风格的人。

You will hear a huge variety of voices talking about interesting and engaging topics.

你将听到各种各样的声音,谈论有趣且引人入胜的话题。

And that's not all receive full transcripts, listening comprehension, quizzes, new vocabulary, glossaries and vocabulary quizzes.

不仅如此,你还会收到完整的文字稿、听力理解测验、新词汇表、词汇注释和词汇测验。

By the end of this course, you will feel much more confident understanding speakers.

完成这门课程后,你理解英语母语人士的讲话会更加自信。

So what are you waiting for?

你还在等什么?

Get started today.

今天就开始吧。

Okay, let's get started with this exercise.

好了,我们开始练习吧。

So I'm going to use Youtube on my phone, but… It really doesn't matter.

我将在手机上使用 YouTube,但是……这真的没关系。

And I want you to type into the search bar, something like Charlie Chaplin clip or short movie clip or silent film clip or Pixar short clip.

我希望你在搜索栏中输入类似“卓别林片段”、“短片”、“无声电影片段”或“皮克斯短片”的内容。

Ideally, I want you to find a video that is about three to five minutes long.

理想情况下,我希望你找到一个大约 3 到 5 分钟长的视频。

That has a story to it.

它要有一个故事。

And it would be great if there wasn't speaking in it.

如果视频中没有对话就更好了。

But it doesn't matter if there is.

但如果有对话也没关系。

But the really good ones are the ones without speaking.

但真正好的视频是没有对话的。

I will provide a whole list of the videos that I suggest for this exercise, videos that I think will be really good.

我会提供一份我推荐用于此练习的视频清单,我认为这些视频都非常好。

And it will be on the PDF that the members are getting for this video.

它会包含在会员为此视频获得的 PDF 文件中。

So if you want that PDF, make sure you become a member.

所以,如果你想要这份 PDF,请确保你成为会员。

So I'm gonna type in Charlie Chaplin clip.

我要输入“卓别林片段”。

Okay, so the first thing I want you to do is I want you to watch the first thirty seconds.

好的,我希望你做的第一件事是观看前 30 秒。

It doesn't have to be exactly thirty seconds, but roughly thirty seconds.

不必正好是 30 秒,大概 30 秒就可以了。

So let's watch it together.

让我们一起观看。

Okay, that was about twenty seconds, but that's a good time to pause.

好了,大约 20 秒,这是一个很好的暂停时间点。

Then I want you to say out loud.

然后我希望你大声说出来。

Say it out loud.

大声说出来。

What you just saw.

说你刚刚看到了什么。

Now, make sure you choose a tense that you're going to speak in.

现在,确保你选择一个你要使用的时态。

Sometimes when I do this exercise with my students, they start in the present tense, and then they go to the future tens, and they go to the past tens.

有时我和学生一起做这个练习时,他们一开始用现在时,然后又变成将来时,然后又变成过去时。

They kind of wobble between the tenses.

他们在不同的时态之间摇摆不定。

So choose a tent.

所以选择一个时态。

I suggest the present tense normally when we are describing stories from movies or stories from books or TV shows, we describe them in the present tense.

我建议用现在时,通常当我们描述电影、书籍或电视剧中的故事时,我们用现在时来描述。

So tell me what happened.

告诉我发生了什么。

You can rewind back if you want to remind yourself, so… Okay, so we've got a man.

如果你想回顾一下,可以倒回去看。所以……好的,我们看到一个男人。

Runs, we're gonna go for the present tense.

跑,我们要用现在时。

A man runs into a.

一个男人跑进一个……

Hmm, now if you encounter something and you don't know the word for it in English, I want you to go to the dictionary, go to Google, translate and find that word.

嗯,如果你遇到某个东西,而你不知道它的英文单词,我希望你去查字典,去谷歌翻译,找到那个单词。

Okay, so this is a cage.

好的,这是一个笼子。

So if that is a new word for you, I want you to write it down cage with maybe the word in your language.

如果这是一个你的生词,我希望你把它写下来,写下“cage”(笼子),也许还可以用你的母语写下来。

So you remember exactly what it was.

这样你就确切地记住它是什么了。

So now we can complete the whole sentence.

现在我们可以完成整个句子了。

A man runs into a cage.

一个男人跑进一个笼子。

Next up, a man runs into a cage and finds a sleeping lion.

接下来,一个男人跑进笼子,发现了一头睡狮。

Now we've got the word "finds" in there.

这里我们用到了“发现”这个词。

That's okay.

这没问题。

But can we think of any other words for that verb?

但我们能不能想出其他动词来代替它呢?

So if you encounter an adjective or a verb, I want you to try to find three options for that.

所以,如果你遇到一个形容词或动词,我希望你能尝试找到三个不同的选择。

So don't just go for the easy option.

不要只选择最简单的那个。

So we did the easy option there.

我们刚才就选择了最简单的。

We said, "finds" a sleeping lion.

我们说,发现了一头睡狮。

It's a bit obvious.

这有点儿太普通了。

It's a bit easy.

有点儿太简单了。

So I'm gonna go to the thisaurus and I'm gonna type in the word "find".

所以我要去查同义词库,输入“find”这个词。

And then I've got the word "discover", "encounter", "stumble on".

然后我找到了“discover”、“encounter”、“stumble on(偶然发现)”。

Okay, I've got different versions for the same word, and I'm gonna write them all down.

好的,我找到了同一个词的不同表达方式,我要把它们都写下来。

And then maybe I will say the sentence in three different ways.

然后,也许我会用三种不同的方式来表达这个句子。

So we've got… A man runs into a cage and encounters a sleeping lion.

所以我们有……一个男人跑进笼子,遇到了一头睡狮。

A man runs into a cage and discovers a sleeping lion.

一个男人跑进笼子,发现了一头睡狮。

A man runs into a cage and stumbles on a sleeping lion.

一个男人跑进笼子,偶然发现了一头睡狮。

So we want to expand that vocabulary.

所以我们要扩展词汇量。

And your brain will remember these words because you are attaching it to the context of the video.

你的大脑会记住这些单词,因为你将它们与视频的上下文联系起来了。

Your brain will remember the lion, will remember the cage, will remember the music and you are attaching words to those images.

你的大脑会记住那个狮子,会记住那个笼子,会记住那段音乐,你会把文字附加到这些图像上。

So you are much more likely to remember them.

所以你更有可能记住它们。

And it's much more fun than just looking at a list.

而且这比只看一个单词列表要有趣得多。

So let's carry on.

所以我们继续。

Let's watch the next part.

我们来看下一部分。

Okay, right.

好的。

So the obvious thing to do here is to say he "walks away" from the lion, but "walks" isn't very specific.

这里最明显的做法是说他离开了那头狮子,但“walk”这个词不够具体。

He walks away from the lion, okay?

他走着离开了狮子,对吧?

That's not, that's not exactly what he's doing.

那并不完全是他正在做的。

He's not just walking.

他不只是走。

I want you to be specific.

我希望你具体一点。

Don't just go for the easy option.

不要只选择最简单的选项。

Be as specific as you would be in your native language.

就像用你的母语一样,尽可能具体地表达。

What is the perfect word?

最合适的词是什么?

Find it and write it down.

找到它并写下来。

So the perfect word for what he's doing is… Tiptoe.

所以,描述他正在做的事情的最合适的词是……踮着脚尖走。

When you tiptoe, you walk on the tips of your toes.

当你 tiptoe 时,你是用脚尖走路的。

So that's the perfect word.

所以这是最合适的词。

So he tiptoes away from the lion.

所以他踮着脚尖离开了狮子。

He tiptoes away from the lion.

他踮着脚尖离开了狮子。

Okay, that is the perfect word for the situation.

好的,这是描述这种情况的最佳词汇。

If you find the perfect word, great move on.

如果你找到了最合适的词,那就太好了,继续。

What happens next?

接下来发生了什么?

He reaches a door.

他走到一扇门前。

But it won't open.

但是门打不开。

He pushes the door, but it won't open.

他推了推门,但门打不开。

Okay, now be specific.

现在具体一点。

What does he actually do with his arm?

他实际上是用胳膊做了什么?

What does he do?

他做了什么?

He reaches his left arm out of the cage and around to the front of the door.

他把左臂伸出笼子,绕到门前。

He knocks a bar which falls and locks the door.

他碰倒了一根棍子,棍子掉落锁住了门。

That's how specific I want you to be.

我希望你描述得就是这样具体。

Every step.

每一步都要具体。

That is the only way to get your English.

这是提高你英语的唯一方法。

Crisp is if you give me all the details and all the specifics.

清晰的描述是指你提供给我所有的细节和所有具体的信息。

Oh, dear.

哦,天哪。

Now, how is he feeling at this point?

现在,他在这个时候是什么感觉?

Think about feelings, emotions.

想想感受,情绪。

How do you think he's feeling?

你觉得他感觉如何?

And you will probably find an adjective.

你可能会找到一个合适的形容词。

So go to a thesaurus and find me three words for how he's feeling, "afraid", "frightened", "anxious".

所以去查查同义词词典,帮我找到三个表达他感受的词,比如害怕、恐惧、焦虑。

All of those words are really great.

所有这些词都非常好。

And I want you to find some new words that you didn't know before.

我希望你能找到一些你以前不知道的新词。

Write them down.

把它们写下来。

Get them in this exercise, then revise what you've just done.

在这个练习中使用它们,然后修改你刚刚写的内容。

Go back and try to narrate the story while the video is playing like this.

像这样,在视频播放的同时,试着讲述故事。

A man runs into a cage and encounters a sleeping lion.

一个男人跑进一个笼子,遇到了一头熟睡的狮子。

He tiptoes away from the lion towards the door.

他踮着脚尖离开了狮子,走向门口。

He pushes the door.

他推了推门。

但是门打不开。

So he reaches his left arm out of the cage and around to the door.

于是他把左臂伸出笼子,绕到门边。

He accidentally knocks a bar which falls and locks the door, leaving him feeling very anxious.

他不小心碰倒了一根棍子,棍子掉落锁住了门,这让他感到非常焦虑。

I would feel very anxious as well, definitely.

我肯定也会感到非常焦虑。

And as I was just watching that, I realized that there's something else we can add to this story because we've got a verb.

我刚才在看的时候,意识到我们可以给这个故事添加一些其他的内容,因为我们已经有了一个动词。

Can we do an adverb?

我们可以加个副词吗?

So we've got "tiptoes".

我们用了“踮着脚尖”。

他踮着脚尖离开了狮子。

Can we do an adverb for that verb?

我们可以给这个动词配个副词吗?

How does he tiptoe?

他是怎么踮着脚尖的?

He tentatively tiptoes tentatively.

他小心翼翼地踮着脚尖。

If you do something tentatively, you do it with hesitation.

如果你"tentatively"地做某事,你就是犹豫地做这件事。

You're doing it very softly. You are worried about the outcome, so you… that's tentatively.

你做得非常轻柔。你担心结果。所以你……这就是“小心翼翼地”。

Add adverbs to these verbs.

给这些动词加上副词。

Expand, expand, expand.

扩展,扩展,再扩展。

So we've done our first twenty second.

我们已经完成了前 20 秒。

So let's carry on with the video.

让我们继续看视频。

Let's see what happens next.

让我们看看接下来会发生什么。

Okay, so what was that?

好的,那是什么?

What was the specific action?

具体的动作是什么?

Specific, specific?

具体,具体?

So what do you think?

你觉得怎么样?

See if you can get it before I say it.

看看你能不能在我说出来之前就明白。

So he reaches into his pocket and takes out a… What would you call that?

他把手伸进口袋,掏出一块……你会怎么称呼它?

What do you think?

你觉得呢?

If you don't know, go to your translator.

如果你不知道,就去查你的翻译工具。

Find the perfect word.

找到最合适的词。

I would say the perfect word for that is a handkerchief or a hanky.

我认为最合适的词是 handkerchief(手帕)或 hanky(手绢)。

A lot of the time we shorten handkerchief to hanky or a silk scarf.

很多时候我们把 handkerchief 简称为 hanky,或者说是 silk scarf(丝巾)。

Maybe it's posher than a handkerchief.

也许它比 handkerchief 更高级。

Maybe it's a silk scarf.

也许是条丝巾。

Oh, I would say a handkerchief.

哦,我觉得是块手帕。

And what does he do with the handkerchief?

他用手帕做什么?

What does he do with it?

他怎么用它?

He waves it.

他挥舞它。

Why? To try to get someone's attention?

为什么?是为了引起别人的注意吗?

Give me all the details.

告诉我所有细节。

So he reaches into his pocket.

他把手伸进口袋。

He takes out a handkerchief and waves it out of the cage to try to get someone's attention.

他掏出一块手帕,在笼子里挥舞,试图引起别人的注意。

Let's carry on and see what happens next.

我们继续看看接下来会发生什么。

So he's waving that handkerchief.

所以他正在挥舞那块手帕。

No one's coming.

没有人来。

So he puts the handkerchief back back into his pocket.

于是他把手帕放回口袋里。

And tiptoes.

然后踮起脚尖。

There's tiptoe again.

又踮起脚尖了。

He tiptoes towards… Okay, now specific.

他踮着脚尖走向……好了,现在具体点。

The easy thing to do here is to say a door.

这里最简单的说法是“一扇门”。

He tiptoes towards a door.

他踮着脚尖走向一扇门。

But is that a door?

但那是一扇门吗?

Is that the best word we can think of in your language?

这是你能想到的最好的词吗?

Would you just say door?

你会只说“door”吗?

Maybe you would, but the real specific way would be hatch.

也许你会,但更具体的词应该是“hatch(舱门)”。

It's a hatch.

那是一个舱门。

Cause it opens that way and it's little.

因为它是那样打开的,而且它很小。

So we call that a hatch.

所以我们称之为“舱门”。

Now we could just say he opens a hatch.

现在我们可以说他打开了一个舱门。

But again, I want to be more specific.

但我还是想更具体一些。

He slides open a hatch.

他滑开了一个舱门。

He doesn't just open it.

他不只是“打开”它。

他“滑开”了一个舱门。

Always go for the most specific.

总是要用最具体的词。

And what does he discover on the other side?

他在另一边发现了什么?

So he slides open a hatch and he discovers a tiger on the other side.

他滑开了一个舱门,发现另一边有一只老虎。

Let's carry on.

我们继续。

Okay, right. So what is that?

好的。那是什么?

First of all, what is it?

首先,那是什么?

That thing on the shelf.

架子上的那个东西?

What would you call it?

你会怎么称呼它?

你会怎么称呼它?

What's the specific word?

具体的词是什么?

It's a tray, a tray of water.

那是一个托盘,一个装水的托盘。

So you could say there is a tray of water on a shelf.

所以你可以说架子上有一个装水的托盘。

And when Charlie stands up, he accidentally knocks it off the shelf.

当查理站起来时,他不小心把它从架子上碰掉了。

"To knock off", to accidentally hit something and make it fall off a surface.

“To knock off”是指不小心碰到某物并使其从表面掉落。

So he accidentally knocks the tray off the shelf.

所以他不小心把托盘从架子上碰掉了。

But does it fall?

但是它掉了吗?

Okay, so he accidentally knocks it off the shelf, but he catches it before it hits the floor.

好的,所以他不小心把它从架子上碰掉了,但在它掉到地上之前接住了它。

He catches it before it hits the floor.

他在它掉到地上之前接住了它。

So let's revise what we just did.

让我们回顾一下我们刚才做的。

Let's go back.

让我们回到刚才。

He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a handkerchief.

他把手伸进口袋,掏出一块手帕。

He waves it out of the cage to try to get someone's attention.

他把手帕伸出笼子挥舞,试图引起别人的注意。

But no one is looking.

但是没有人注意到他。

So he tiptoes over towards a hatch.

于是他踮着脚尖走向一个舱口。

He slides the hatch open and discovers a tiger on the other side.

他滑开舱口,发现另一边有一只老虎。

When Charlie stands up, he knocks a tray of water off a shelf.

查理站起来时,碰倒了架子上的一托盘水。

But he manages to catch it before it hits the floor.

但他设法在水托盘掉到地上之前接住了它。

And okay, new character.

好,新角色。

Okay, so a lot of my students make this mistake.

我的很多学生都会犯这个错误。

So we've got a new character in this story, don't we?

现在故事里出现了一个新角色,对吧?

We've got this little guy here.

就是这个小家伙。

Now, this is the first time we've seen him in this story.

现在,这是我们在这个故事里第一次见到他。

So a lot of my students will say something like, um, suddenly the dog arrives or suddenly the dog starts barking.

我的很多学生会说,嗯,突然一只狗出现了,或者突然一只狗开始叫。

But this is the first time we are seeing this dog.

但这是我们第一次看到这只狗。

This is the first time you are mentioning this dog.

这是你第一次提到这只狗。

So if it's the first time you're mentioning someone or something, and if it's nonspecific, we've got to say.

所以,如果这是你第一次提到某人或某事,并且它是非特指的,我们应该说……

"A", or "an" for the first time.

呃,第一次见到"一只"。

So suddenly a dog appears.

突然,一只狗出现了。

Now let's describe the dog.

现在我们来描述一下这只狗。

Don't just say "a dog".

不要只说“一只狗”。

Give me more information.

给我更多信息。

So suddenly, a little scrappy dog runs up to the cage and starts barking.

突然,一只瘦小的脏狗跑到笼子前,开始狂吠。

That would be a lovely sentence.

这将是一个很棒的句子。

So whatever adjective you want to use to describe that dog in your own language, find it in English.

无论你想用什么形容词来描述那只狗,用你的母语找到它,然后用英语表达出来。

Then the way that Charlie responds is quite interesting.

查理的反应很有趣。

So he's very stressed out.

他非常紧张。

He tries to put his fingers in his ears, and then he does this.

他试图把手指塞进耳朵里,然后他做了这个动作。

Okay, what is that in English?

好的,用英语怎么说?

What is that action?

那是什么动作?

What is that?

那是什么?

What is that?

那是什么?

We can say "to plead" or "to beg" so we can beg someone or we can plead with someone.

我们可以说“恳求”或“乞求”,我们可以乞求某人或恳求某人。

So he's begging, He's pleading.

所以他在乞求,他在恳求。

He's saying, please stop barking, please.

他在说,请别叫了,求你了。

So write those words down.

把这些词写下来。

He doesn't leave and he starts jumping up.

它没有离开,开始跳起来。

He starts jumping up to the cage.

它开始向笼子跳起来。

Let's watch the next little bit.

我们来看接下来的片段。

Okay, prepositions.

好,介词。

What's going, where? What's going, where?

什么东西去了哪里?什么东西去了哪里?

Okay, so he sticks out his leg or he sticks his leg out of the cage to try and kick the dog.

好的,他把腿伸出笼子,或者说他把腿从笼子里伸出来,想踢那只狗。

He's trying to kick the dog to make it run away.

他想踢那只狗,让它跑开。

Be specific.

要具体。

Suddenly, a woman arrives.

突然,一个女人出现了。

Not "the" woman because we haven't met her before.

不是“那个”女人,因为我们以前没见过她。

"A" woman arrives.

“一个”女人出现了。

Let's see what happens.

让我们看看发生了什么。

Oh, we've got some words.

哦,我们有一些词。

Okay, what happened? What did she do?

好的,发生了什么事?她做了什么?

So he says open the door quick and she.

于是他说快开门,然后她……

Huh? She faints.

嗯?她晕倒了。

In the UK, we say "faint" in the US, they say "pass out".

在英国,我们说“faint”,在美国,人们会说“pass out”。

So she faints or passes out.

所以她晕倒了或失去了知觉。

Okay, so you probably know exactly what he's doing in your native language, but can you do it in English?

好的,你可能确切地知道怎样用母语描述他在做什么,但是你能用英语表达吗?

So she has fainted.

所以她晕倒了。

She is on the floor currently.

她现在躺在地板上。

He picks up the tray of water and starts… You've got two options.

他拿起那托盘水,开始……你有两种选择。

He starts "splashing" the water onto her, splashing the water.

他开始把水泼在她身上,泼水。

Or you could say he starts "flicking" the water onto her.

或者你可以说他开始把水弹到她身上。

So splash, we only use for water.

所以“splash”这个词,我们只用于说水。

So if you are "splashing water", you are trying to get water on someone, or "flick", which is kind of that action.

所以,如果你“splashing water”,你是想把水弄到某人身上,或者“flick”,这有点像那个动作。

But you can say flicking water, flick, flicks, trying to flick water onto her.

但你可以说“flicking water”,一下一下地弹,试图把水弹到她身上。

That's so much more specific and so much better than "putting water on her".

这比“把水倒在她身上”更具体,也更好得多。

You know, that's so much more specific.

你知道,这更具体得多。

Splashing water.

泼水。

I know exactly what that means.

我确切地知道这意味着什么。

Or flicking water. I know exactly what that means.

或者弹水。我确切地知道这意味着什么。

But it doesn't work. She hasn't woken up.

但这没用。她还没醒过来。

Now, the lion at that point, he wasn't waking up.

那时,狮子没有醒过来。

He was doing this.

他正在做这个动作。

So he was yawning, yawning.

所以他在“yawning”,打哈欠。

But also just moving a little bit.

而且只是稍微动了一下。

So when you are sleeping and you. You move a little bit.

所以当你睡觉的时候,你……你稍微动了一下。

You're not waking up, you're just.

你没有醒过来,你只是……

Having a little movement, we say you are stirring to stir, so the lion stirs.

稍微动了一下,我们说你在翻身,所以狮子翻了个身。

But then he wakes up.

但后来他醒了。

The lion wakes up very suddenly, and Charlie drops the tray of water and runs back to the door.

狮子突然醒过来,查理扔下水托盘跑回门口。

Very tense, Very, very tense.

非常紧张,非常非常紧张。

He stands up and approaches Charlie or walks up to Charlie.

他站起来,走向查理,或者走到查理面前。

But then?

但是后来呢?

The lion walk walks away.

这只狮子走开了。

And leaves him alone.

留下他一个人。

And goes back to where he was sitting.

回到它原来坐着的地方。

So again, a very different emotion.

所以,再一次,一种截然不同的情绪。

How is he feeling now?

他现在感觉如何?

He is feeling utterly relieved.

他感到如释重负。

He is feeling relief.

他感到轻松。

He is so relieved.

他松了一口气。

我们来看下一部分。

Okay, and that's pretty much the end.

好的,差不多就结束了。

So let's talk about that Ending.

让我们来谈谈这个结局。

The lion at first is kind of rolling around like a cat.

这只狮子一开始像猫一样在地上打滚。

Well, I suppose a lion is a cat.

好吧,我想狮子也是猫科动物。

So he's rolling around.

所以它在地上打滚。

He seems very content, very happy.

它看起来很满足,非常高兴。

So Charlie, who is feeling very relieved, decides to just wait.

查理感到如释重负,决定等等看。

I suppose.

我猜的。

He just waits for something to happen.

他只是在等待事情发生。

Then the woman, okay?

然后是那个女人,好吗?

Now, we could say that she wakes up, but normally we use wake up for sleeping and she wasn't necessarily sleeping.

她醒过来了,不过我们通常用“wake up”指睡醒,而她当时未必是睡着了。

She was unconscious.

她是失去意识了。

So we can be quite formal and say she regains consciousness.

所以我们可以用比较正式的说法,说她恢复了意识。

That's quite formal.

这种说法比较正式。

Or we can say she comes to. That's it.

或者我们可以说她苏醒过来。就这样。

"To come to" means to regain consciousness.

“To come to”就是指恢复意识。

So finally, the woman comes to, then she races… Let's think of a better word than runs.

所以,最后这个女子苏醒过来,然后跑回……我们想想有没有比“run”更好的词。

Let's say she races back to the cage or she darts back to the cage to help Charlie.

我们可以说她飞奔回笼子,或者说她冲回笼子去救查理。

She opens the door for him.

她为他打开了门。

Now, how is he acting now?

现在,他的表现如何?

He is showing off a little bit.

他有点儿炫耀。

He is showing off.

他在炫耀。

He's saying, hey, it's just a lion.

他在说,嘿,只是一头狮子而已。

I don't care about a lion.

我不在乎狮子。

It's just a, we're just a little cat. It's a lion.

它只是一只……我们只是一只小猫咪。这是一头狮子。

他在炫耀。

Or you could say he is being a show-off.

或者你可以说他正在卖弄。

A show Off is a noun.

“show off”作名词是指爱炫耀的人。

So he is being a show-off.

所以他正在卖弄。

He's going, ah, I don't care. I don't care. Whatever, whatever.

他说着,啊,我不在乎。我不在乎。无所谓,无所谓。

But then when the lion roars at him.

但当狮子向他吼叫时……

He darts out of the cage and runs straight up a pole.

他冲出笼子,径直爬上了杆子。

So again, if you see that big, long stick and you think, what's that?

所以,如果你看到那根又大又长的棍子,心想那是什么?

Google it, pole, you'll learn.

上谷歌搜索“pole”,你就知道了。

You'll learn so many random words with this exercise, but you never know when you might need them.

通过这个练习,你会学到很多随机的单词,你永远不知道什么时候会用到它们。

So he is now at the top of the pole.

现在他在杆子顶上了。

She looks up at him and she says, what are you doing up there?

她抬头看着他,问道,你在上面干什么?

And he shows off a little bit more now.

现在他更加炫耀了。

He, he keeps showing off.

他一直在炫耀。

He does a little dance.

他跳了一小段舞。

He puts his arms out. He leans back.

他张开双臂。他向后仰。

He's showing off and she says, come down now.

他在炫耀,她说,现在下来。

So he slides down the pole, slides down the pole.

于是他从杆子上滑了下来,滑了下来。

And all is well with the world.

世界太平了。

He didn't get eaten by a lion.

他没有被狮子吃掉。

Thank goodness all is well.

谢天谢地,一切都好。

So like I said, that's all you need to do.

就像我说的,这就是你需要做的全部。

And in my ears of teaching, I've not found a better, more fun, easier, more enjoyable way of expanding vocabulary.

在我多年的教学生涯中,我还没有找到比这更好、更有趣、更简单、更愉快的扩展词汇量的方法。

It means you get to sit and watch a nice video.

这意味着你可以坐着看一段精彩的视频。

You get to be a bit creative.

你可以发挥一点创造力。

You get to speak out loud, which is always the best thing to do.

你可以大声说出来,这总是最好的做法。

And your brain gets to attach context to the vocabulary.

你的大脑可以将上下文与词汇联系起来。

It remembers what happened in the video when it learnt that word.

它会记住学习这个单词时视频中发生的事情。

So it's much more likely to stay in there.

所以它更有可能留在你的记忆中。

So like I said, I will provide a whole p d f of all the videos that I recommend for this exercise.

就像我说的,我会提供一个包含所有我推荐用于此练习的视频的 PDF 文件。

If you want to get that P, D, F become a member, it cost the same as one cup of coffee a month.

如果你想获得这份 PDF 文件,成为会员即可,费用只相当于每月点一杯咖啡。

It's not a lot at all.

一点也不贵。

And you get all of these perks.

你还能获得所有这些好处。

So thank you so much for watching this video.

非常感谢你观看此视频。
