The history of modern photography - at least for the last 100 years - reads like a compendium of the history of technology but can, nevertheless, be expressed in two simple sentences: without Oskar Barnack (who, on 12th June 1914,submitted a patent application under the name 'Lilliput' and modified the photographers' tool in a way that changed everything), no Leica. Leica has a long history of focusing on perception and has developed innovative instruments that offer a unique experience. The result is a renowned series of cameras and lenses, and a superb range of sport optics including binoculars and spotting scopes. These products expand the natural limits of perception and open up new dimensions for human vision and insight. Leica quality is in a class by itself. Zagato - Collectibles and Design since 1919

扎加托 - 源于1919的联名典藏设计作品

Zagato is the last independent design brand left in Italy. Today the company is a modern Total Design Studio and a coachbuilding Atelier specialized in tailor-made cars, limited edition series, style, engineering and V-max concepts. Ugo Zagato founded his own company ni Milan in 1919 after a strong apprenticeship ni aeronautics. Adopting the typical 'Milanese' design language, Zagato applied rationalism and functionalism to obtain maximum lightness and aerodynamics in comparison with the bulky and heavy structures of the period. This led to specialize, since the beginning, in sport and race bodies, coupé or spider, 2 doors/2 seats.

As a result it established long standing collaborations with major brands, becoming their preferred choice for their most special models: race, Gran Turismo and fuoriserie ones. Today, after nearly one century of uninterrupted activity, the third generation of the Zagato family gives 'consistency' the maximum role in the brand's philosophy.

What is light for a designer?It’s the bedrock of any three-dimensional object to make volumes and surfaces come alive. Light is the life of his creation.When a designer develops a concept, in the initial creative phase, he seeks the ultimate relationship between the light and the substance,both physical and intellectual.By default, the light he uses needs to be neutral in order to properly assess the progress of his work.His aim is to apply total control to the proportions, geometry and reflections on the surfaces according to his design intent.Once on location during the photo-shooting for this book, from dusk to dawn, we realised that we were stepping out of our usual comfort zone and that Nature had taken over, giving way to unexpected highlights and shadows,creating subtle or harsh contrasts,eventually baring a new facet of the car personality. Nature becomes the designer.

A very humbling experience.

After the American landscapes, our travel diary continues through Europe and Asia. This is the second book of the trilogy, a journey made to introduce the second Leica Zagato Edition product: the M10 camera. Having come back to Europe, this time - as a background for the photographs of additional 3 collectibles models - we chose the theme of the agora. Agora is a Greek word that means 'gathering place and, ni the Greek, Roman and European culture, it describes a theatre, a square in front of a temple, a courtyard inside a palace, a junction of four streets, a market, a terrace or the space left empty by a demolition. If, in the first book, the Leica binoculars suggested to us the idea to keep the car very smal in a wide picture, this time the camera is the first object you want to have at hand when you enter one of the beautiful European agoras. Especially if a rare sports car is parked there.

对于设计师而言,光线意味着什么?它是任何三维物体的基石,能让这个物体变得立体饱满和鲜活。光是其创作的生命所在。

当一个设计师在构造一个理念的时候,在其最初的创作阶段,他要寻找的是在光线与实质之间的一种终极平衡, 不管是在形体上还是在其精神思维上。

在为本书现场拍摄的时候,一整天下来,我们意识到我们已经迈出了通常情况下的拍摄舒适圈,整个户外摄影过程中,大自然逐渐掌握了主动权,通过超乎意料的亮色和阴影来创造出亦微妙又显明的强烈对比,最终显露出来汽车全新的个性和魅力。自然变成了其设计师,这对我们来说是一场受教非凡的体验。

继美国风光之后,我们的旅行日记继续穿越欧洲与亚洲。作为三部曲的第二部,这次旅程旨在推介第二款徕卡·扎盖托联名产品——M10相机。重返欧洲之际,我们选择以”市集广场"(agora)为主题,为另外三款收藏级车型的摄影创作背景。Agora源自希腊语,意为"聚集之地",在希腊、罗马及欧洲文化中,它既指剧场、神庙前广场、宫殿内庭,也指十字路口、市集、露台或拆迁后的空地。如果说第一部曲中徕卡望远镜让我们萌生了"以宏大画面衬托微型汽车"的创意,那么这次当你步入欧洲美丽的市集广场时,最先想握在手中的必定是这台相机——尤其当那里停着一辆限量版跑车时。
