Liang Shijie: He's nearly fifty, not like he was back then. I'm taking a diet like this!

Man, he's almost fifty at a glance. Standing at this "half-mountain" of life, looking back, those days of youthful recklessness and profligacy are like an old movie that keeps flashing back in my mind; Looking further forward, the leisure of retirement and the stability of old age seem to be looming in the cloud. Almost fifty years old is like a watershed between years of passion and a future that must be carefully guarded. Therefore, health care has become my top "priority" right now.

Chinese Medicine: A Noble Book of Wisdom from Our Ancestors

I've always been in awe of my ancestors. Traditional Chinese medicine is an inexhaustible treasure. Let's just say that all four seasons are healthy. Spring is here, everything is coming back to life. It's like nature shouting, "Wake me up, it's time to move!" At this time, Chinese medicine told me to "sleep at night and get up early and walk in the courtyard," which means not to sleep lazy, get up earlier and walk around the courtyard so that the body can also relax and stretch in line with the spring rhythm. I followed suit, walking slowly through the neighborhood every morning in the first ray of sunshine, feeling the softness of the spring breeze, as if I could hear every cell in my body cheering, "How comfortable!"

In summer, it's as hot as a big furnace. Chinese medicine says that at this time, you should "sleep late and get up early so that you don't get tired of the day." I wondered at first that on such a hot day, getting some sun and sweating in the morning makes my whole body feel more energized. Moreover, in summer, there is heavy humidity, so I cook green bean and薏苡 porridge, which can both clear the heat and relieve the humidity. It is a double win.

Autumn has arrived and the weather is becoming dry. It's like nature is reminding me, "It's time to get hydrated!" I eat more nourishing foods, such as pears, lilies, and silver ears. I make a bowl of lotus root soup every day. The soft, sweet taste of the soup makes it feel like the whole body is moisturized. It's like pouring a timely rain on dry land.

It's a cold winter, and it feels like the cold wind can drill into the bones. At this time, I must "go to bed early and wake up late, and wait for the daylight," which means that I should sleep more and lazily until the sun comes out before I get up. I used to soak my feet in hot water and massage the soles of my feet before I went to bed at night. It was so pleasant, and I felt the exhaustion of the day washed away.

Reduce Socialization: Give the Mind a Break

In the past, I was a socialite, and I never missed a single party or dinner. At that time, I thought there was no harm in having more friends and getting to know more people. But as I get older, I find those lively occasions increasingly exhausting me. Every time I came back from a party, I felt my head buzzing and my heart still empty.

Once, I went to a party with an old classmate. Everyone gathered together, and at first it was a lot of fun, but the chatter turned into comparisons. One says how productive his children are, the other says how big his business is. I was sitting there listening to their showing off, feeling less and less good about it. It suddenly strikes me that this kind of networking is like a gorgeous show, where everyone is wearing masks and saying things they don't really mean.

Since then, I have consciously reduced my social interactions. Stop going to those pointless parties and instead spend more time with yourself and your family. On weekends, I would go to the market with my wife to buy vegetables and come home to make a great lunch together. After dinner, we would sit on the balcony, drink tea and talk, enjoying the serenity and warmth. This simple happiness was not given to me by the busy social occasions.

Don't strenuous exercise and mountain climbing: take it easy, don't be aggressive

When I was young, I was a sports fanatic. Basketball, table tennis, badminton, running, anything. After each exercise, although he was breathless with exhaustion, his heart was especially cheerful. But in my late 50s, I found that my body wasn't as bulky as it used to be. Once, I went to badminton with a few young lads, and within a while, I felt a severe pain in my knee. The next day, he was limping and walking. When he went to the hospital, it turned out to be a damaged knee.

Another time, a friend asked me to climb a mountain. I was confident at first, feeling like I wasn't old enough with my sword. But when I climbed halfway up the mountain, I felt my heart beat faster, I wheezed and gasped, and my legs were as heavy as lead. I kept on climbing with my teeth, but when I got to the top of the mountain, I almost fainted. Since then, I have learned that a man approaching fifty can no longer exercise and climb mountains as vigorously as he did when he was younger.

Now, I will choose some more gentle forms of exercise, such as walking and playing tai chi. Every morning, I would go for a walk in the park. As I walked, I appreciated the scenery around me and felt the beauty of nature. In the evenings, I will follow videos to learn tai chi, one technique at a time, which is not very standard, but also relaxes my mind and body. This relaxed mode of exercise does not cause injury to the body and can keep the body healthy, so why not?

Quit smoking and drinking for years: Breaking the "chain" and embracing health

When it comes to quitting smoking and drinking, it was one of the best decisions of my life. Before, I was a man who always kept a handful of cigarettes and alcohol. When I come back from work every day, the first thing I do is light a cigarette and pour a glass of wine, which is nicknamed "relax and relax." But as time went on, I found that my health was getting worse. When I get up in the morning, my throat is dry and itchy, and I often cough. I drank too much, and the next day I got dizzy and didn't feel any better.

From then on, I made up my mind to give up smoking and drinking.

The process of quitting smoking is not easy. In the beginning, I always couldn't help but want to smoke, and when I saw someone else smoking, my drool ran down. But as soon as I thought about my body, I grit my teeth to stop it. To distract, I chew gum and snack. When I quit drinking, when I meet friends at a party, they always urge me to have a drink, but I firmly refuse each time.

After a while of trying, I finally succeeded in quitting smoking and drinking. Now, I feel that my body is getting better, my breathing is getting smoother, and my spirit is getting a lot fuller. It's like breaking free of the "shackles" of your body and embracing health and freedom again.

When you're nearing fifty, getting well is like a long marathon. Traditional Chinese medicine has allowed me to live in harmony with nature. Reducing social interactions has allowed us to have inner peace. Not exercising vigorously and climbing mountains has allowed my body to be loved. Quitting smoking and drinking for many years has freed me from health risks. I know there is still a long way to go, and I will continue to follow my regimen and welcome every good tomorrow with an optimistic, open heart. Maybe when I'm 80 years old, I'll still be dancing like a young man!
