Ode to My Mentor

您是园丁育幼芽，

三更灯火映窗纱。

You nurture budding greens as gardener true;

Late into night your window’s lit for long.

智慧播来桃李树，

汗珠浇出凤凰花。

Sowing your wisdom, peaches, plums you grew;

With sweat you watered blooms of phoenix strong.

心泉汩汩滋新笋，

责任巍巍护晚霞。

Your heart’s spring feeds new shoots with nutrients;

You shield late blooms with care magnificent.

授业声中春浩荡，

传道指下月清嘉。

Your teaching’s like spring permeating the air;

Your guidance’s like the moon serene and fair.

昔年懵懂蒙严训，

今日从容走天涯。

Once ignorant, by your advice I’m told;

Now worldly-wise, I roam about the earth.

不觉恩师逾耳顺，

犹将心血润新芽。

You’ve passed your sixty, growing gray and old,

But still you nurture buds of priceless worth.

天涯频寄寸心语，

遥祝安康福寿加。

Though far away, my thoughts to you will roam.

I wish you peace and health and blessed days.

春风化雨年年在，

遍地芳菲是尔家。

Your teaching like spring rain will nurture homes;

Your fragrant blooms will always fill the ways.

桃李无言蹊自远，

山高水长颂师华。

Peach, plum spread shade as footpaths wind afar;

Your praise’s sung as long as rivers are.
