BRICS nations serve as a cultural bridge between developing and developed countries, a Russian academic said, arguing the groupingshould prioritize human-centered values as well.

Anna Kurumchina, an associate professor at Russia's Ural Federal University, told the BRICS Seminar on Governance and Cultural Exchange Forum on June 30 that BRICS must move beyond being merely "an alternative economic platform" and also serve as a foundation for new cultural values.

BRICS should also be seen as "a sphere of new foundations and value imperatives" that puts humanity first, she said.

The academic argued that BRICS countries, deeply engaged in economic and political cooperation, could leverage their distinctivecultural values, technologies and philosophies to create a social model emphasizing harmony over power and profit.

She called for cultural diplomacy to cultivate mutual understanding and encourage member nations to develop value systems promoting a more inclusive world order.

The forum was co-hosted by the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, China International Communications Group and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics.
