Still water runs deep, and the realm is revealed in silence. "Abyssal Silence" is derived from the passage in Zhuangzi(Chapter:Zai You), which states "The abyss is silent, yet the sound of thunder arises." It refers to the profound silence that conceals a forceful power. This concept aptly encapsulates the spiritual core of the works by artists Ding She, Pan Wei, and Yan Bo-where stillness serves as the outward form, and cultural roots form the foundation, creating a resonance of Eastern philosophical thought within the context of contemporary art. Their creations are neither simple replicas of tradition nor blind adherence to Western modernity, but instead, they build a bridge that ps across time and space between the depths of the "abyss" and the tension of "silence."

Since the early 1990s, Ding She has been experimenting with abstract painting languages. With over three decades of accumulation, he has demonstrated to the world the space that abstract painting can occupy within the context of Eastern culture. Building upon tradition, he has created his own system of symbols. His works encompass a vast range of knowledge, pning music, philosophy, and more from ancient and modern times, both in the East and the West.

Pan Wei deconstructs text and material layers, imbuing his works with historical depth and mystery. His creations always focus on the integration of tradition and innovation, returning to the origin through abstraction.

Yan Bo integrates the contradictions of materials, exploring the poetic philosophy of "imperfection" through cracks and the flowing glaze-like colors. This cross-boundary approach is not a mere amalgamation of techniques, but a creative transformation rooted in the Eastern aesthetic system, becoming a vessel that carries a dialogue across time and space.

In terms of form, all three break through the inherent boundaries of media. On the spiritual level, the exhibition implies a thread that transitions from "physical form" to "mental image." This shift from the external to the internal mirrors the Zen Buddhist practice of "illuminating the mind and seeing one's true nature," achieving a resonance of spirit in silence. It is not a monologue of stillness, but rather the fission and growth of cultural genes in the contemporary context. Ding She, Pan Wei, and Yan Bo each demonstrate in their own way that the vitality of tradition does not lie in its museum-like preservation, but in the creative reconstruction undertaken by artists from a contemporary perspective.

Pan Wei, born in Shanghai in 1962, moved to Japan in 1990 to study and engage in cultural and artistic exchange. He is currently a Distinguished Professor at Musashino Art University in Japan. Since 1989, Pan has held over 60 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 150 group exhibitions across China, Japan, Europe, and the United States. His works are part of the permanent collections at prominent institutions such as Shanghai’s World Expo Reception Hall, Shanghai PowerLong Museum, the Karuizawa New Art Museum, Morita Museum, Haus Kasuya Contemporary Art Museum, NTT-T East Japan Corporation, and the INFIN Group in Japan.

Yan Bo was born in 1970 in Beijing to an artistic family, his father was an oil painter and his mother was an art teacher. He graduated from the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 1996, and graduated from the postgraduate program in oil painting materials and expression at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 2002. He now lives and works in Beijing.

Yan Bo's artistic practice breaks the constraints of traditional rectangular frames, focusing on three-dimensional non-figurative works. His deep understanding of structure, form, color, space, and material has led to a maturation of his artistic language. Yan Bo's works set up a kind of discursive "special objects" in the mixed zone of painting and objects, in which Yan Bo sets up a kind of "logical strangeness", and he establishes a kind of logically unfamiliar context and unique technical support, so that the works, with their open irregular shapes and the traces of time's stacking and sharpening, present the spirit palpable and seemingly warm freedom.

Yan Bo has held exhibitions in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and other places multiple times in recent years, and has won the Gold Prize at the 10th National Art Exhibition in 2004, the Distinguished Young Artist Prize of Shanghai Spring Art Salon and so on. His works are collected by the National Art Museum of China, the National Museum of Modern Chinese Literature, as well as other prestigious institutions.
