丹霞山以赤壁丹崖为特色，是世界“丹霞地貌”命名地。丹霞地貌是指有陡崖的陆相红层地貌。丹霞山具有典型性、多样性和不可替代性，在地层、构造、地貌表现、发育、环境演化等方面的研究是世界丹霞地貌区中最为详细和深入，成为全国和世界丹霞地貌科学研究基地、科普旅游和教学实习基地。丹霞山有大小石峰、石堡、石墙、石柱等600多座，群峰如林、疏密相生、错落有致、造型奇绝、鬼斧神工，宛如一方红宝石雕塑园，又称“中国红石公园”。

丹霞山集雄、险、奇、秀、幽于一身，超凡脱俗，别具一格，是大自然之瑰宝。丹霞山分为丹霞游览景区、韶石游览景区、巴寨游览景区、飞花水游览景区、仙人迹游览景区和锦江、浈江风光带。目前已开发丹霞游览景区的长老峰、阳元石、翔龙湖和锦江长廊，都是以自然观光为主、集科普、考察、攀岩、探险、休闲度假为一体的旅游区。

Brief introduction of Danxiashan{Chinese}

Danxiashan, is located in the northeastern suburbs of Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province. and it is an outstanding representative of low-altitude mountain scenic spot in China. Honored with China National Park, National Nature Reserve, Global Geopark ,National AAAAA Tourist Attractions, and World Natural Heritage.

Danxiashan is characterized by red walls and red cliffs. and the place where the term of “Danxia landform” is given. Danxia landform is a unique type of physiognomy featuring precipitous continental red beds. Danxiashan embodied in its research work in a highly exhaustive and deep-going way as carried out in the field of Danxia landform Areas in connection with strata, structures, landform performance, development and environmental evolvement and other aspects, and it becomes a national and even worldwide base for academic research, popular science tourism and teaching practice. Within this geopark, there are more than 600 geomorphological landscapes, as represented by stone peaks of various sizes, stone castles, stone walls and pillars, etc., displaying themselves as large quantity of peaks erecting as forests and growing of alternative density, or in picturesque disorder, or special and unique in shape, or the wonderfulness of nature. As a matter of fact, it very much resembles a garden of ruby sculpture and therefore is called “Redstone Park of China”.

Danxiashan is famous for its “grand, precipitous, wonderful and graceful” sceneries, extraordinary refined and unique style, therefore Danxiashan has been proved to be a treasure of nature.

Danxiashan is composed of Danxia, Shaoshi, Bazhai, Feihuashui, Xianrenji scenic areas, Jinjiang and Zhenjiang river tourist areas. Zhanglaofeng (Elder Peak), Yangyuanshi (Male Stone) and Xianglonghu Lake and Jinjiang river of Danxia Tourist Area have already been opened. These tourist area are developed mainly for sightseeing based on natural resources, meanwhile integrating popular science, scientific survey, rock-climbing, exploration and vocation tourism.
