On September 21st, hosted by the Organizing Committee of WeStart Entrepreneurial Investment Conference, organized by Shanghai Technology Innovation Center, WeStart 2025 TOP100 Competition (International startup session) was successfully held at Zhangjiang Science Hall. Representatives from shortlisted overseas project teams for the Semifinal, as well as guests from well-known venture capital institutions, large enterprises, business incubators and entrepreneurship & innovation service providers attended the event.

WeStart 2025 TOP100 Competition, as one of the main activities of 2025 WeStart Entrepreneurial Investment Conference, and also one of the series events of 2025“Startup in Shanghai”International Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition, has adopted an open and inclusive stance to attract and gather high-quality sci-tech innovation projects as well as top talents from around the world.

面向全球，吸引“早、小、硬”科创项目

Global Call for Early-Stage, Small-Scale and Hard-Tech Scientific Innovation ProjectsWeStart

2025 TOP100创赛自5月正式启动以来，聚焦生物医药、集成电路、人工智能以及未来产业，面向全球征集“早小硬”科创项目，共有1487个团队报名参赛。其中，海外71个团队报名参赛，占比达到5%。海外项目来源覆盖欧洲、亚洲、北美洲、大洋洲和非洲五大洲，包括美国、荷兰、法国、英国、芬兰、俄罗斯、斯洛伐克、日本、津巴布韦等21个国家。经过英国、新加坡和上海赛点的行业专家的严格筛选，最终有16个海外项目成功晋级，受邀参与WeStart 2025 TOP100创赛海外团队半决赛的角逐。本届入围半决赛的海外项目赛道，与当前科技前沿以及上海重点产业发展方向高度重合，涵盖机器人、医疗健康、人工智能、半导体、信息技术、新能源、新材料等领域，尤其是机器人、医疗健康、人工智能项目聚集度高，都是当前投资的热点。

Since its official launch in May, WeStart 2025 TOP100 Competition has focused on biomedicine, integrated circuits, artificial intelligence (AI) and future industries, and has called for "early-stage, small-scale and hard-technology" sci-tech innovation projects globally. A total of 1,487 teams have registered for the competition, among which 71 are overseas teams, accounting for 5% of the total. These overseas projects originate from five continents—Europe, Asia, North America, Oceania and Africa—covering 21 countries including the United States, the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Japan and Zimbabwe. Based on the rigorous evaluations by industry experts at the competition sites in the United Kingdom, Singapore and Shanghai, 16 outstanding overseas projects have finally advanced to the Semifinal of WeStart 2025 TOP100 Competition (International startup session). The tracks of the overseas projects shortlisted for this year's Semifinal are highly aligned with the current cutting-edge technology trends as well as the key industrial sectors prioritized for development in Shanghai, covering fields such as robotics, healthcare, AI, semiconductors, information technology, new energy and new materials. Notably, there is a significant concentration of projects in robotics, healthcare, and artificial intelligence—all of which are current hotspots for investment.

HaptonTech’s mission is to achieve robotic realism by introducing a realistic sense of touch for human users through its robotic skin technology, which is based on the patented polymer materials.

Dr. Mert Orhan Astam, Co-founder& CEO of HaptonTech, said, “HaptonTech requires an additional USD 1.1 million to close its seed funding stage, with the aim of expanding the HaptonTech team and manufacturing capacity, to supply its list of international customers, including Audi and Lenovo. We are looking forward to establishing contacts with Chinese industry partners and investors through the competition. We hope to set up manufacturing bases in China to realize the scale-up process.”

Mr. Peter Hrapko the CEO of Intermodal logistics solution Ltd, said, “Our vision is to implement the construction and certification of the HIT system in China. We are interested in cooperation with all Chinese companies that would be interested in using the HIT system as a fully automated system for container transhipment between rail and road, with 4x faster transhipment, 49% lower investment and 15% lower operating costs, using artificial intelligence to optimize transhipment.”

After the fierce competition and the conscientious evaluation by the judges, eight projects were honored with the Excellence Award, while another eight projects received the Most Promising Team Award.

In order to empower the overseas project teams on their entrepreneurial journey, a workshop was specially organized for the participating teams. Three seasoned guests, who have been deeply engaged in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship for many years, were invited to share their industry insights and practical experiences.

As a large enterprise, by opening up its rich industrial resources including supply chains, R&D capabilities, and distribution channels—it provides entrepreneurs with accelerating services that integrate "scenarios + technology + capital," fostering close collaboration among large enterprises and SMEs.

Pablo Fernandez, an entrepreneur and environmentalist from Spain, came to Shanghai in 2015 and currently is the Founder and CEO of Nevegy, an environmental-tech company that focuses on creating healthy, sustainable, ESG-ready indoor spaces by reducing energy consumption through its smart tech and solutions. He shared with the audience his unique entrepreneurial experience and lessons learned from his personal journey of starting a business in Shanghai as a foreigner.

对于海外项目团队来说，参赛的目的是希望通过大赛推进在中国的发展计划，听取中国投资专家的意见，加速项目的产业化进程。

For the overseas project teams participating in the competition, their primary expectation is to explore more collaborative opportunities to advance their development plans in China.

组委会特邀老鹰基金、浩澜资本、徐汇科创投以及科转技鑫私募基金等七家的专注于不同产业并拥有海外项目落地经验的专家作为大赛评委，他们凭借丰富的行业经验、敏锐的市场洞察力和专业的技术判断力，从项目创新性、技术优势和成熟度、商业模式、市场潜力、团队能力等多维度对参赛项目进行全面客观的评审和深度点评，围绕项目的行业引领性和商业落地可行性和项目团队展开热烈的互动交流，同时也为项目的未来发展模式提出了相关建议。

Seven experts from different institutions, such as Eagle Fund、Haolan Venture Capital、Xuhui Technology & Innovation Investment and Shanghai KZJX Private Equity Fund, who specialize in diverse industries and possess hands-on experience in facilitating overseas project localization, were invited to serve as judges. Leveraging their extensive industry experience, keen market insights and professional technical judgment, the judges conducted a comprehensive and objective evaluation of the participating projects from multiple dimensions, including innovativeness, technical advantages and maturity, business model, market potential and team capabilities. They also provided in-depth feedback, engaged in lively interactive discussions with the project teams regarding the projects' industry potential and commercial feasibility, and even offered some advice on strategic planning for the future development.

期间，组委会还特别组织了“WeStart国际·静安之夜”、“WeStart国际·临港workshop”等活动，将海外项目与国内一线投资人、高质量孵化器、国内应用场景企业进行对接，介绍上海的科创、人才政策，为海外项目了解上海、落地上海提供服务与帮助。

各位投资专家纷纷表示，愿意进一步深入了解这些海外项目。有的项目已经有投资人在接触，并约定后续的洽谈。还有的投资人表示希望能尽快看到项目的实物样品，并会协助联系试用场景。有的项目明确表示上海的创新氛围非常吸引她，希望尽快在上海设立办公室。

During the competition, the organizing committee also specially organized events such as “WeStart International·Jing'an Night” and “WeStart International·Lingang Workshop”. These activities connect overseas projects with top domestic investors, High-quality incubators, and domestic application scenario enterprises. They introduced Shanghai's innovation and talent policies and the service and assistance they can provided to help overseas projects to understand and land in Shanghai.

Investment experts have all expressed their willingness to gain a deeper understanding of these overseas projects. Some projects are already in contact with investors, who have scheduled follow-up discussions. Additionally, some investors have indicated that they hope to see the physical samples of the projects as soon as possible and will help connect with trial scenarios. Certain projects have clearly stated that Shanghai's innovative atmosphere is highly attractive to them and that they hope to set up an office in Shanghai soon.
