"When I saw the chorus members standing on Tiananmen Square wearing our shoeson the live broadcast, tears welled up in my eyes immediately." Xu Rongjin, head of the footwear business division of Cabbeenin Guangdong, could barely contain his emotion. That moment was not only the solemn commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, but also a proud display of Chinese craftsmanship and technology from a Chinese shoe company.
In early August, Cabbeen received an urgent assignment: "Within 20 days, we need to produce 3,000 pairs of shoes with high standards." There were no detailed instructions; what remained was the responsibility to deliver. "Normally, such an order would take at least 45 days," Xu said. It was a task nearly impossible to fulfill. These "white shoes" needed the formal look of leather shoes combined with the comfort of sneakers, so that the wearer could stand for hours without fatigue, discomfort, or slipping.
The key breakthrough came through 3D printing. The shoes were printed integrally using photopolymer resin, cutting development time dramatically from 15 days to just two. Precision reached millimeter-scale, with subtle adjustments made according to differences in the foot shape of people from northern and southern China. The ventilated honeycomb-like structure provided effective shock absorption, pressure dispersion, and slip-resistance. The athletic insoles are removable and washable. The entire shoe underwent 20,000 bending tests and rigorous inspections to ensure "zero defects" when delivered.
On September 3rd, sunlight bathed Tiananmen Square. Three thousand students stood tall and resolute, with their voices echoing across the plaza. Beneath them were the 3D-printed white shoes witnessing this historic performance.
