March 31, Taizhou – At Jiangsu Province’s largest mushroom production base in Qiaotou Village, Jiangyan District, Taizhou, spanning 1,500 acres, State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company is empowering over 200 farming households to upgrade their industry through precision power supply services. The base’s "smart mushroom growing houses" leverage IoT technology and electricity-driven intelligent systems to remotely regulate temperature, humidity, and CO₂ levels, breaking traditional straw shed farming’s reliance on natural climate conditions. This innovation enables uninterrupted annual production, achieving an output of 1,000 tons of mushroom spawn and generating 150 million yuan in annual sales.
In January this year, to address growing power demand from expanded production capacities, State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company swiftly deployed technicians to survey the site and implement upgrades. Within three months, they installed two 500 kVA transformers, while integrating smart monitoring systems with on-site staff to ensure stable operation of 128 environmental control devices. This infrastructure supports a monthly power consumption of 58,000 kWh, boosting daily mushroom spawn production from 13,000 to 30,000 units.
Technological innovation remains central to the industrial upgrade. In collaboration with the base, the utility introduced blockchain traceability technology via State Grid’s Enfos Platform, embedding digital IDs into 300,000 mushroom spawn units. Real-time data on cultivation conditions and logistics are recorded on-chain, allowing consumers to verify product quality via QR codes—a feature elevating brand value by over 20%. Simultaneously, the "PV + mushroom houses" project deployed 180 kW rooftop solar panels that meet 60% of daytime electricity demand, supplemented by energy storage systems for surplus power regulation. These efforts are projected to cut annual electricity costs by 410,000 yuan, reducing per-unit energy consumption by 62% compared to traditional methods.
The base now operates at 8 times the efficiency of conventional farming, with an average annual income increase of 36,000 yuan per household, showcasing the replicability of the "electricity + agriculture" model. State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company stated it will continue refining energy service standards to advance tailored solutions for rural green transformation. (By Yang Yi and Li Yang)
