Melancholy of Parting

一别朱轮觅已难，

美人行处似云残。

To find you after farewell is hard indeed;

Your beauty fades like clouds with steed after steed.

桃蹊夜月迷香砌，

柳陌春星落絮团。

Peach flowers steeped in moonlight veil the fragrant bower;

Willow-down wafts with spring stars over pathway sweet.

几日孤眠消绿醑，

何年重见怯清欢。

How many days alone can I drown in wine?

When we meet again, can we enjoy cups fine?

千山树暗秋先觉，

九曲鸿稀影自寒。

Mountains and trees foretell the autumn hue;

Few swans cast shadows on winding cold stream.

封缄未料成空叠，

契阔终知续断难。

I did not know my letters were sent in vain;

At last I find it’s hard to unite again.

争信天涯应有路，

此身长向醉中看。

Can I believe there’s a way to the world’s end?

Henceforth in a drunken gaze my days I’ll spend.
