Japanese Imperial forces committed one of the most notorious wartime atrocities of the 20th century in 1937: the Nanjing Massacre. Troops killed more than 300,000 unarmed men and civilians. They also raped and tortured tens of thousands of women and girls, according to a post-war tribunal.

然而，日本民众普遍对这段惨绝人寰的历史不仅无知无感，在一些立场右倾出版社出版的教材中，甚至对侵华日军在中国犯下的大规模杀人、抢劫、强奸等滔天罪行只字不提，一味质疑远东国际军事法庭的裁定，更有甚者彻底抹去有关南京大屠杀的表述。

就在九三阅兵前期，有报道称，日本呼吁各国不要参加中国抗战胜利纪念活动及阅兵。

“日本如果真心想翻过历史问题这一页，就应该以诚实态度正视和反省侵略历史，同军国主义彻底切割，坚持走和平发展道路，切实尊重中国等受害国人民的感情，这样才能取信于亚洲邻国和国际社会。”他说。
