With the warm spring sun heralding renewal, the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2025 commences in this season of hope. We extend our sincere welcome to the distinguished leaders from government, business, and academia, the outstanding representatives across industries, as well as our media friends, who have gathered from all corners of the world to converge in picturesque Boao. Together, in the spring breeze, we can engage in open discussions and chart a shared course for the development of Asia and the world.
The BFA Annual Conference 2025 will be held from March 25 to 28. The world is undergoing profound and far-reaching changes, and as we enter 2025, unilateralism and protectionism are developing in new directions, bringing greater shocks to global stability and the global economic recovery. The challenges and uncertainties the world faces continue to grow, and the international community’s sense of concern and anxiety has risen sharply. In this context, the Annual Conference 2025 holds great practical and long-term significance. In this changing landscape, the international community universally expects Asia to play a more active role in promoting the construction of an open world economy, maintaining global stability, and fostering sustainable development. As Asia’s most important forum, the BFA will, as always, actively advocate for economic globalization and multilateralism in the face of these new circumstances. The theme of this year’s conference, “Asia in the Changing World: Towards a Shared Future,” directly addresses the major issues and challenges of our time. It will help us better navigate the current situation, foster unity and cooperation, and strive for common development. We hope that through this year’s annual conference, we can send the international community a strong message of trust and confidence, solidarity and cooperation, common development and a shared future.
This year's topics will include four major categories: the first category is “The Bigger Picture: Building Trust and Promoting Cooperation in a Fast-Changing World”. Under this category, a series of topics will be discussed, including building an open world economy, the Global South, the direction of U.S. foreign policy and its implications on Asia-Pacific cooperation, global governance after the United Nations Summit of the Future, the prospect of regional integration, monetary and financial stability, creating a peaceful development environment, and enhancing dialogue among civilizations. Through the deliberation of these topics, it is expected to promote multilateralism, improve global governance, enhance trust, promote practical cooperation, and ensure that the world will stay on the right track.
The second category is “Promoting Growth: Re-balancing Globalization for Inclusive Development”. This category will invite discussions on topics including achieving inclusive globalization, revitalizing APEC, unlocking the greater potential of regional free trade arrangements, maintaining the stability of the global supply chain, the development of global free trade ports, and cross-border e-commerce cooperation. With the exchange of views, actions could be taken in promoting the healthy development of globalization and Asia-Pacific regional cooperation, exploring ideas and measures to address current challenges and spillover effects, creating an external environment beneficial to all, and seeking common development.
The third category is “Shaping the Future: Accelerating the SDGs for More Effective Responses to Global Challenges”. This category would include topics such as addressing climate change, promoting Asia's energy transition, a shared future of health for all, financing for a zero-carbon future, accelerating the implementation of sustainable development goals, aging, and pension reform. The purpose of the discussion is to better identify problems and find solutions for promoting sustainable development and addressing global challenges, through sharing best practices and successful cases.
The fourth category is “Identifying New Drivers: Strengthening AI Application and Governance for Innovation-Driven Development”. This category will encourage participants to engage in discussions on AI application and governance, developing core competitiveness through the application of AI, digital capacity building, green power, and business strategies in response to the fast-changing world. The discussion is aimed at promoting innovative development while preventing potential risks, and providing new ideas on the trends of innovation and suggestions in dealing with the global changes for the business community.
In addition, the annual conference will host a series of activities such as roundtables for youth and women, as well as dialogues among entrepreneurs from China, Japan, Republic of Korea, and Australia.
The 2025 Annual Conference will have four distinct features: First, a focus on development. Every session will address development issues from different perspectives, and the forum’s research reports will closely align with the themes of Asian economic integration and sustainable development. Second, fostering dialogue. By providing a platform for open communication, the conference will actively work to reduce the international trust deficit. Third, innovation in formats. The conference will introduce diversified formats, including high-level dialogues and “release moments”, while enhancing the participant experience to ensure greater value from attending. Fourth, focusing on practical results. The conference will strive to transform ideas into actions, facilitating the implementation of cooperation intentions and research outcomes.
We are pleased to offer an open and inclusive platform to focus on Asia’s development, face global challenges together, and create Asia’s shared future in a changing world. Asia is at the forefront of global progress in many areas, showcasing bright prospects. The world has every reason to be hopeful about Asia’s future, and Asia, in turn, has reasons to be confident about the world’s future.
