1. in front of 与 in the front of

1). in front of 表示“在……前面”，指范围之外的前面。如：

There is a tree in front of the house.
房子前面有一棵树。（树一般不长在房子里的哦）

There’s a bus stop in front of the school.
学校前面有个公共汽车站。（范围之外）

He sits in front of me.
他坐在我前面。

2). in the front of 表示“在...的前面”，指范围之内的前面，也即在某物的前半部分。

I prefer to sit in the front of the car.
我喜欢坐在汽车的前面。（如果坐在车外面的前边，那么司机是不敢开车的）

There is a big desk in the front of the classroom.
教室的前面有一个大讲桌。（范围之内）

2. in hospital 与 in the hospital

1). in hospital 没有定冠词the的限制，hospital是一个抽象名词，in hospital的意思就是相对宽泛含义的“住院”。

His mother was in hospital.
他的妈妈生病住院了。

2). in the hospital 由于有了定冠词the的限制，the hospital成为了一个具体的地点名词，所以in the hospital 表示“在医院”这个地方，可能是到医院工作/ 看望病人等。

His mother was in the hospital.
他的妈妈在医院里。

3. at table 与 at the table

at table的意思是吃饭，就餐；而at the table是指在餐桌前，坐在餐桌旁。

They usually tell stories at table.
他们通常在吃饭时讲故事。

He sat at the table and asked me a question.
他坐在餐桌旁，问了我一个问题。

She sits at the table with a novel.
她拿着一本小说，坐在餐桌旁。

4. 其实鸭，上文类似的短语还有很多，比如：
