Rowing, a mainstream international water sport with a long history, is highly esteemed by many leading sports nations and renowned sports cities. To better reflect Shanghai's regional and cultural characteristics—a city built by water, thriving on water, and all-embracing—Shanghai successfully bid in 2017 to host the 2021 World Rowing Championships, marking the first time this top-tier global rowing event would come to China. The event was postponed and is now scheduled for September 21st to 28th of this year. Approximately 1,200 participants from over 80 countries and regions, including 60 para-athletes, are expected to compete in Shanghai.
