At the opening ceremony of the 16th Asian Games Guangzhou 2010, Wu Yi, a professional protocol volunteer standing behind Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, President of the Olympic Council of Asia, captured the attention of audiences across Asia with her warm and charming smile. Since then, she has been affectionately known as the "smiling girl" or "sister of smiles".

Looking back on those days, Wu Yi remembers them vividly. To prepare for the Asian Games, every member of the team underwent intensive training, including courses in ballet and ceremonial protocol. Only after passing strict assessments and comprehensive evaluations were they given the chance to stand on stage. The rewards of their hard work were truly meaningful, although Wu never expected to become widely known just for her smile.

Fifteen years have flown by, and throughout that time, volunteering has remained a constant theme in Wu Yi's life and work. Now, Guangzhou is preparing to host another major event—the 15th National Games, co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. As a teacher at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), Wu Yi's new role is to coach and guide student volunteers from different universities.

From being a role model among volunteers to now becoming a mentor who nurtures them, Wu Yi's change in role has only deepened her passion for volunteer service. This is not only training, but also the passing on of a smile. Through her guidance, many of the "Little Dolphins" (nickname for the 15th National Games volunteers) will have the chance to showcase the spirit of the younger generation.

Not long ago, a reporter had the chance to attend one of Wu Yi's volunteer etiquette classes at the GDUFS campus. As the students stood up to mimic her movements, their precise gestures, accompanied by bright smiles, felt as gentle and pleasant like the tree shadows swaying in the breeze outside the classroom.

Wu Yi said, "When I look at them, I see my younger self reflected in their faces. Volunteering is more than just physical gestures or words—it must come from the heart. That's how we bring care and support to others. We are full of confidence in the volunteer work for the 15th National Games."
