Did you know? Among China's Four Famous Towers, it is the only one that is “ageless” in ages. Yueyang Tower sits in Yueyang City, Hunan Province, right beside Dongting Lake. The top of the tower offers an amazing panorama of surrounding waters and mountains. It’s the only ancient building among China’s Four Famous Towers that’s still kept as it was originally built. Dating back to 220 AD, poets and scholars have written countless verses here praising its beauty. In its eponymous legendary prose-poem “Yueyanglou Ji”(Note on Yueyang Tower) written by Fan Zhongyan, the most quoted verse—“I wish to be the first to worry about the nation’s woes and the last to share in its prosperity.”—is still inspiring folks after thousands of years. Though damaged and rebuilt many times over 1,800 years, it has always been restored to its original appearance, carrying the profound historical and cultural heritage of Hunan.
