The Huaihua International Land Port handled 88 freight train trips in April, with 4,382 TEUs, according to the New Land-Sea Corridor Operation (Hunan) Co., Ltd. In the first four months of this year, the port operated a total of 354 freight train trips with 17,700 TEUs, marking a 32% year-on-year increase.
Since the beginning of this year, the Huaihua International Land Port has transported approximately 300,000 tonnes of goods worth about 2.6 billion CNY, with an inbound-to-outbound cargo ratio of 1:1.6. The port has operated five cold chain freight train trips (with 246 TEUs, completing 41% of this year's target) and 130 rail-sea intermodal train trips.
In 2025, six new routes were added, bringing the total to 161, a 3.87% increase. The transport network has been expanded to 158 ports and stations across 52 countries and regions. The port has handled 17 categories of goods, covering 399 specific product types.
The rapid development of the Huaihua International Land Port has been driven by the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The agreement has significantly boosted trade between Huaihua and ASEAN as well as other RCEP member countries. From January to April this year, the port operated 140 ASEAN-bound freight train trips (with 6,976 TEUs), including 115 China-Laos ones (up 9% year-on-year) and 13 China-Vietnam ones (a sixfold increase). Additionally, 96 domestic freight train trips were processed.
During this period, the China-Laos and China-Vietnam freight train services transported about 90,000 tonnes of goods worth 500 million CNY. Major imports from ASEAN countries such as Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam included tapioca starch, longan, bananas, steel products, hot-rolled steel wire rods, and plastic mulch film, while exports primarily consisted of general merchandise, ammonium sulfate, and ammonium bicarbonate.
As Hunan's only ASEAN freight hub, the Huaihua International Land Port benefits from a direct route to the Beibu Gulf Port, further enhancing logistics efficiency and accelerating cargo throughput. In the near future, the port will continue to improve the quality and frequency of freight train services, striving to become a top-tier international logistics hub in central China and contribute to the region's high-quality economic development.
