The soft sunlight filtered through the linen curtains, falling on the micro-cement and oak, and the linear time evolved into a carefully arranged natural rhythm. An apartment located in the old district of Barcelona is like a newly composed piece of music - transforming daily life into a habitable exhibition space, responding to the warmth and weight of the Mediterranean.
The designer reorganized the space with the strategy of "opening outward and converging inward". The private areas such as the bedroom and bathroom are ingeniously placed on one side of the entrance, away from the sounds of the city and the ocean. The living area that enjoys the sunshine and sea breeze is the main stage of daily life, fully interpreting the social and open nature of Mediterranean life.
Piso Barceloneta was originally a residence divided into several small rooms. Now, after being restructured by Isern Serra, the space has been given "freedom". The original partition was removed and replaced by an open view that is continuous and transparent. The living room is no longer separated from the kitchen and the balcony, forming a conversational relationship with the outside.

In the living room, the built-in sofa becomes the visual anchor point of the space. It is both furniture and architecture, retracing the simple yet highly sculptural construction language of the Mediterranean region. The sofa is integrated with the wall as one, like a naturally growing structure, supporting the overall narrative of the residence.
We hope to turn Piso Barceloneta into a gallery of life. Designer Isern Serra said, "It is not only a residence, but also the site of a private exhibition." Every piece of furniture and every material is meticulously arranged as if it were a curatorial exhibition, making it a visual carrier about memories and the present.
Contemporary furniture from Vasto Gallery, paired with selected vintage items from Fenix Originals and Polop Store, presents a diverse and parallel structure. They are not merely simple contrasts, but rather, through the language of materials and shapes, they establish a resonant bond that transcends eras, possessing the depth of time.
The kitchen custom-made with natural oak creates a subtle contrast with the micro-cement paint throughout the house. Oak brings a warm and natural aroma, while micro-cement builds a unified base with its continuous texture. The tension between the two creates a rhythm in the materials, evoking people's tactile memories of traditional Mediterranean architecture.
Although the bedroom is a private area, the overall design language still continues to this point. A Mark Bohle art piece, pushing things forwards, pairs with the L4 stool designed by Cambier Studio - the latter blurring the line between furniture and sculpture, making everyday use an aesthetic experience.
The bathroom adopts a semi-transparent glass brick wall structure, which not only ensures privacy but also allows natural light to seep in gently. The glass bricks, like filters, break down light into countless warm particles that quietly diffuse into space. This approach is a contemporary translation of traditional Mediterranean architecture, transforming functionality into a poetic light-sensing experience.
For Piso Barceloneta, not only physical existence but also the "material" that constitutes the temperament of the space. It is softened and elongated through linen curtains, growing slowly on micro-cement walls and oak surfaces, creating flowing time. This approach to controlling light reflects the designer's profound understanding and local response to the Mediterranean climate.
