A flight carrying a total of 1,084 kilograms of wild Nile perch fish maw (swim bladder) from Uganda arrived at Changsha Huanghua International Airport on December 31, 2024. These products entered the Chinese market after going through customs clearance procedures by the airport authority.
According to an announcement of the General Administration of Customs, from October 9, 2024, China has allowed the import of wild aquatic products from Uganda that meet relevant requirements. This batch of products is China's first shipment of dried fish maw from Uganda since the announcement, marking further progress in China-Africa economic and trade cooperation in the field of agricultural and food products.
"Uganda is the main producer of dried fish maw in Africa. With good quality and moderate pricing, the Uganda product enjoys broad market prospects in China." According to a spokesperson for the importer Haotong Supply Chain Management (Hunan) Co., Ltd., these dried fish maws are from wild Nile perch native to the Nile River Basin in Uganda, processed mainly into yellow fish maw and other products. In the future, the import of agricultural and food products from Africa is expected to expand, thanks to the stable China-Africa freight routes operating at Changsha Huanghua International Airport as well as Hunan's efforts in building the Pioneering Zone for In-depth China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation.
Changsha Huanghua International Airport has also begun to handle China's import of other high-quality African agricultural and food products such as Kenyan anchovy and dried sea cucumber, further enriching the domestic market demand. According to data from the Changsha Customs Authority, in the first 11 months of 2024, Hunan's imports from Africa reached 22.13 billion CNY, a year-on-year increase of 59.1%. In particular, the import of agricultural products hit 380 million CNY, an increase of 16.2%.
