Pyramids, the Sphinx, museums, Red Sea…For thousands of years, China and Egypt have stood as pillars of human civilization. Now, in the modern era, tourism is forging a new connection between these two ancient lands. In 2024 alone, Egypt welcomed over 300,000 Chinese visitors, marking a 65% increase from the previous year. As tourism between China and Egypt continues to flourish, it serves as a bridge between past and present, linking two great civilizations’ cooperation.

China has been Egypt's top trading partner in recent years, and Chinese investment in Egypt has exceeded $7 billion. The most iconic project is the TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, which is located in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. Over 180 Chinese companies have invested more than $3 billion here, focusing on industries like textiles, home appliances, and renewable energy.

In 2024, China–Egypt trade surged to $17.4 billion, and Guangdong was behind one-fifth of that. Cooperation between Guangdong and Egypt is growing fast. Let’s zoom in on two important places. Guangdong, the Southern gateway to China, and Egypt, the gateway to Africa and the Middle East. Guangdong is the heart of China’s foreign trade. Home to cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Foshan, it produces everything from smartphones and textiles to home appliances, NEVs, solar panels, etc. Thousands of kilometers away, Egypt, with its pivotal position along the Suez Canal, is a key node in this global network.

The Guangdong–Egypt trade relation is not just about foreign trade. It’s about building supply chains that stretch Across continents. The trade story between Guangdong and Egypt will continue. In recent, Guangdong companies signed over 30 agreements worth more than $1.8 billion with Egyptian counterparts. These agreements covered sectors such as electric vehicles, infrastructure, green energy, and logistics. Notably, ZTE stated that the company plans to expand its local presence in Egypt and increase technology transfer to meet Egypt's growing demand for telecom infrastructure. GAC Group announced plans to invest $300 million in establishing a new car manufacturing facility in Egypt. This will cater to both the domestic market and exports. Midea aims to make Egypt its second-largest production hub after China. Its products cover a wide range of home appliances, including air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, and more.

Chinese companies have not only brought advanced technologies and management expertise to Egypt but have also created numerous jobs and driven local economic development.

Besides trade, China and Egypt have more cooperations on the Global South. In January 2024, Egypt became a new member of BRICS, opening a new chapter of bilateral relation.

Across mountains and seas, China, Guangdong and Egypt are building something bigger —connecting Asia, Africa, and the Global South.
