A launch ceremony for the "Yangtze River Economic Belt-Guangzhou Port-Southeast Asia" Maritime Silk Road E-commerce Express Line was held on March 26, 2025.
As a crucial extension of the Hunan-Guangdong-Africa intermodal transport service, this express line is a milestone of Yueyang in building a new international land-sea corridor in central China. It is also a significant initiative to optimize the city's transportation structure, lower its logistics cost, and boost opening up and development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Leveraging the resource advantages of Guangzhou Port and Yueyang's Chenglingji Port, this e-commerce express line will deepen collaboration with the China Railway Guangzhou Group. It aims to build a high-efficiency, smooth, and stable two-way logistics express line brand that connects the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River with Guangzhou's Nansha Port. Meanwhile, it will capitalize on its connectivity strengths in linking upstream and downstream sectors as a port hub, to integrate key elements and resources within supply chains and logistics networks. This initiative will enhance reasonable matching of elements and resources, optimize the routes, and develop corresponding logistics products, striving to create a logistics service brand covering the whole course.
The e-commerce express line will strengthen its river-rail-sea intermodal transport service, extending the logistics network to Jiangxi, Hubei, Chongqing, and other provinces in central China. It will serve as a river-rail-sea intermodal transport corridor for "Central Regions on the Yangtze Economic Belt-Guangzhou's Nansha Port". By identifying respective orientation and systematic integration of all parties concerned including road transport, port, shipping, cargo, and customs, the initiative will develop distinctive and competitive logistics solutions. For example, "all-inclusive" and "door-to-door” logistics service solutions will be offered, providing "port + logistics + shipping + finance + trade" supply chain services. Based on this, the transit time from Wuhan to Southeast Asia via this intermodal transport service will be reduced to around six days, only half of the previous duration.
Hunan and Guangdong will actively plan to secure sources of imported goods such as cassava and wood chips from Southeast Asia for the return trips. They will collaborate with the railway, shipping, and logistics service providers, as well as cross-border e-commerce platforms, clients, and customs authorities, to break down information barriers and enhance synergy of logistics services. This will attract more manufacturers in central China to export their goods through the southbound maritime routes, further expanding container throughput at Yueyang Port.
