On November 27th, Zhang Jun, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), met with the outgoing New Zealand Ambassador to China H.E. Mr. Grahame Morton.
Secretary General Zhang noted that New Zealand is one of the 29 initial countries of the BFA and has made remarkable contributions to the development of the BFA over the years. The level of cooperation between the two sides has been further enhanced during Ambassador Morton’s tenure. On behalf of the BFA, Secretary General Zhang expressed his appreciation for Ambassador Morton’s efforts and his hope for continued deepening of cooperation between the BFA and New Zealand.
Secretary General Zhang emphasized that, in the context of the profound evolution of the current international political and economic landscape, the BFA will remain focused on Asia with a global outlook. While serving the purpose of Asia's win-win cooperation and achieving sustainable development, the Forum will advocate true multilateralism, actively connect with major international agendas and promote the construction of an open economy. He pointed out that the BFA not only carries the keen expectations and strong support of the initial countries, such as New Zealand, for enhancing mutual trust, unity and cooperation and creating a better future, but also has a group of members and partners, who can turn consensus into actions and bring tangible results. These aspects constitute the unique advantages of the BFA. The 2025 Annual Conference of the Boao Forum for Asia will be held from March 25 to 28 next year. Secretary General Zhang stated that political and business leaders of New Zealand are welcome to actively participate and have in-depth dialogues and cooperation with representatives from other countries to jointly promote regional economic integration and sustainable development.
Ambassador Morton expressed his sincere appreciation for the important role played by the BFA in promoting regional cooperation in the Asia-Pacific and fostering dialogue between Asia and the world. He noted that, as one of the initial countries of the Forum, New Zealand has long paid attention and attached great importance to the development of the Forum, and that it is willing to deepen and expand cooperation between the two sides, jointly advocate for multilateralism and free trade, and work together to promote the development and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region. Ambassador Morton stated that New Zealand will actively participate in the events of the BFA’s Annual Conference 2025.
