“Working in this heat really zaps your energy. Everyone’s gotta step up on heatstroke prevention—no cutting corners!” On August 8, employees from the Live-line Maintenance Division of State Grid Lishui Power Supply Company were conducting live-line work atop an aerial boom truck, clad in heavy dielectric suits. The on-site supervisor kept prodding the crew to stick to safety measures as he checked them. This was one of the scenarios showcasing the company’s efforts to ensure the reliable operation of the power grid during the peak summer power consumption period.

That day, temperatures soared to 37–39°C. Under the scorching sun, operators strictly followed live-line operation procedures. After securing all safety measures, two live-line operators pulled on full sets of dielectric protective gear. The aerial boom truck slowly lifted to the predetermined work site, where workers methodically completed tasks like tools and instruments checks and dielectric shielding. Meanwhile, ground crews stayed in close sync, keeping an eye on every move the boom operators made and how they were holding up physically.

“This dielectric suit’s totally airtight—way hotter up here than I thought, and the work’s trickier than I expected. We’re counting on the ground crew and us up here to sync up—keeps everyone safe,” one operator said.

After 30 minutes, once they pulled off the last dielectric sleeve, the operators guided the insulated boom back down, wrapping up the job successfully. Climbing down from the truck, they peeled off the sweltering gear—tipping their dielectric gloves sent a gush of sweat pouring out, and their work uniforms were soaked through.

“During summer’s peak power use, we focus on fixing issues without shutting off power—keeps the lights on for customers,” the head of the Live-line Maintenance Division at State Grid Lishui said.

Since the start of summer, the company has stuck to the idea that “Keeping the power on nonstop? That’s the best service there is.” It’s kept upping its live-line operation skills, improved power services, and made the power business environment better.
