我的所爱在山腰，

想去寻她山太高，

低头无法泪沾袍。

My love dwells halfway up the hill,

To reach her, slopes high and steep.

I hang my head, tears drench my gown.

爱人赠我百蝶巾，

回她什么：猫头鹰。

从此翻脸不理我，

不知何故兮使我心惊。

She gave a scarf with butterflies,

What did I send? An owl's grim frown.

She cut me off with cold surprise.

Why this should shock me, I can’t tell,

My heart still quakes. Oh, very well!

我的所爱在闹市，

想去寻她人拥挤，

仰头无法泪沾耳。

My love resides downtown, so loud,

To meet her, crowds pack on street.

I lift my head, tears wet my ear.

爱人赠我双燕图，

回她什么：冰糖壶卢。

从此翻脸不理我，

不知何故兮使我糊涂。

She gave a painting, swallows paired,

What did I send? Sweet candied pear.

She turned away, no longer cared.

Why this confuses, I can’t see,

It numbs my mind, bewilderingly!

我的所爱在河滨，

想去寻她河水深，

歪头无法泪沾襟。

My love lives by the riverside,

To find her, waters run too deep.

I tilt my head, tears soak my lap.

爱人赠我金表索，

回她什么：发汗药。

从此翻脸不理我，

不知何故兮使我神经衰弱。

She gave a golden watch-chain bright,

What did I send? A fever's draught.

She stormed away in sudden spite.

Why this unhinges me, I sigh,

My nerves fray, I wonder why.

我的所爱在豪家，

想去寻她兮没有汽车，

摇头无法泪如麻。

My love’s in mansions, grand and proud,

To call, no cab to take me there.

I shake my head, tears fall like rain.

爱人赠我玫瑰花，

回她什么：赤练蛇。

从此翻脸不理我。

不知何故兮由她去罢。

She gave a rose, red as the dawn,

What did I send? A crimson snake.

She shut me out before the morn.

Why should I wonder? Let her be!

Go then, my dear! You’re lost to me!
