The Changsha Event on the Environment Day 2025 took place on June 5. The 2024 Report on the State of the Ecology and Environment in Changsha was released on site, showing that Changsha's overall ecological and environmental quality in 2024 was good.
In 2024, the share of days with good air quality stood at 83.1% or 304 days in downtown Changsha. This marks the fifth consecutive year with over 300 days of good air quality. The surface water quality was generally good. The proportion of surface water classified as fairly good quality in 32 surface water sections (sites) under national and provincial monitoring programs reached 100%. Additionally, the compliance rate for water quality standards in municipal and county-level centralized drinking water sources remained at 100%, meeting the standards for 15 consecutive years since 2010.
The report also indicated that the overall status of Changsha's acoustic environment quality was good. The daytime regional environmental noise levels in the city were maintained at Grade II ("Good"), while the intensity of daytime road traffic noise was rated as Grade I ("Excellent").
Changsha has accelerated technological innovation, R&D and application in the field of eco-environmental governance. By constructing digital control platforms, establishing multi-dimensional monitoring networks, and innovating public co-governance models, the city has forged a distinctive path of intelligent eco-environmental governance. In particular, the Phase I of the "Beautiful Changsha Intelligent Eco-environmental Governance Platform" was successfully included in the list of 100 landmark projects for Hunan Province's "Digital New Infrastructure" in 2025. Additionally, Changsha's experience in building an integrated ecological environment monitoring system was promoted at a national monitoring technology exchange conference. The city also pioneered the establishment of China's first online and offline interactive platform called "Carbon Cycle Changsha," which created a new model of public participation featuring "innovation + environmental protection," attracting 110,000 residents to become "Carbon Cycle Pioneers."
