During the Spring Festival travel rush period, Xiangxi Biancheng Airport will launch two new air routes, namely, the Chengdu-Xiangxi-Wenzhou route and the Zhengzhou-Xiangxi-Haikou route.
The Chengdu-Xiangxi-Wenzhou route was launched on January 16, being operated on every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday. The Zhengzhou-Xiangxi-Haikou route will be launched on January 20, being operated on every Monday, Thursday, and Friday.
Xiangxi Biancheng Airport is the highest-altitude airport in Hunan Province, neighboring Shibadong Village, the birthplace of China's 'targeted poverty alleviation' campaign. In 2024, the airport has handled 1,579 flights and 157,500 passenger trips, overfulfilling the annual goal by 157%.
According the airport manager, the cities connected by the new routes are not only popular tourist destinations but also key regions for labor export from Xiangxi. Upon operation, passengers can direct fly from Xiangxi Biancheng Airport to eight domestic cities including Beijing, Ningbo, Shenyang, and Kunming.
Beginning from June 2024, Xiangxi Biancheng Airport has been serving both departing and arriving passengers in its waiting area, which has greatly enhanced the overall passenger experience. It is the first airport in Hunan and the second in the central and southern regions of China to implement such mixed-passenger flow operation mode.
The airport operates shuttle buses to the city in line with the flight schedule, which offers great convenience to passengers.
During the Spring Festival travel rush, more seats with charging facilities will be added, and ethnic cultural exhibition areas will be set up to showcase Miao embroidery, Miao silver ornaments, and other ethnic crafts and culture.
