On June 3, Mr. Zhang Jun, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), held a roundtable discussion at the BFA Secretariat with youth delegates participating in the Forum’s International Young Leaders Program 2025. Twelve young officials, scholars, and entrepreneurs from Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan, as well as young staff members of the BFA Secretariat, took part in the discussion.

Mr. Zhang welcomed the youth delegates to the International Young Leaders Program and provided an overview of the Forum’s mission as well as his views on the current international landscape. He noted that the Boao Forum for Asia is committed to promoting Asian economic integration and regional cooperation, advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and fostering innovation and inclusive development. In the face of growing global challenges, he emphasized the need to strengthen international exchange and cooperation. Young people, he said, have an important role to play in enhancing mutual trust among nations, facilitating dialogue and collaboration, and driving innovation-led development. He encouraged the delegates to engage in in-depth discussions around the theme of this year’s program — Artificial Intelligence and Technological Innovation — as well as issues such as the application and governance of AI and strengthening digital capacity in Global South countries, laying a solid foundation for contributing meaningfully in their respective fields in the future.

The youth delegates expressed their gratitude to Mr. Zhang for his remarks and to the Boao Forum for Asia for launching the International Young Leaders Program. They said they deeply valued the opportunity to take part in the program and would bring the insights, experiences, and reflections gained during the visit back to their home countries, carrying forward the spirit of dialogue, exchange, and cooperation.

On the same day, the youth delegates also engaged in a lively discussion with young staff members of the BFA Secretariat on the topic of “AI in Our Daily Lives.”

The International Young Leaders Program is a newly launched initiative by the Boao Forum for Asia aimed at supporting youth development and exchange while delivering tangible, results-oriented outcomes. The program targets outstanding young individuals from government, business, and academia across Asia and beyond. Each session invites 10 to 20 young leaders from various countries to China for a 7–10 day exchange and training program. The 2025 edition of the program focuses on the theme of “Artificial Intelligence and Technological Innovation” and will take place in both Beijing and Hong Kong, in conjunction with the 2025 Hong Kong Conference: BFA International Science, Technology & Innovation Forum. During the program, delegates will visit leading industrial parks and academic institutions in the field of innovation and technology, and participate in roundtable discussions during the Hong Kong Conference.
