Guangdong has led the nation in cultural industry scale for 20 consecutive years. With an output value of 2.5 trillion yuan, the province's cultural sector accounts for one-sixth of the national total. When it comes to web literature, Guangdong boasts the highest number of online authors in China. In terms of short-form video dramas, the province is home to over 17,000 related enterprises, including film and television studios, MCNs, gaming firms, and online literature companies, placing it at the forefront nationally in both quantity and production capacity. As for online gaming, the 2024 Guangdong Gaming Industry Development Report revealed that the province's overseas gaming revenue reached 42.36 billion yuan in 2024, an impressive year-on-year increase of 9.9%, defying global economic headwinds.

On the MoboReels platform in Jakarta, Indonesia, the comments section of the Indonesian adaptation of "Crossing the 90s and Flirting with a Charming Husband," filmed in Sanshui, Foshan, is buzzing with excitement. The show has gone viral on Indonesia's platform, with many claiming they "can't stop watching." Short dramas made in Guangdong are winning over international audiences by the millions.

Guangdong's gaming companies also excel at integrating Lingnan culture with digital technology. In "The Road to be Shopkeeper," for example, gaming giant 37 Interactive Entertainment has woven traditional Chinese elements such as lion dances, the Dunhuang Grottoes, and Peking Opera into gameplay. Through collaborations that highlight Cantonese culture and a custom Silk Road version for the South China Sea region, the game blends education with entertainment, offering players an immersive taste of ancient Chinese commercial civilization.

As showcased at the 21st China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF), another key to cultural exports is AI. According to a senior vice president at 37 Interactive Entertainment, the company's strong overseas performance is largely powered by AI. "AI has been fully integrated across the entire game development and operations pipeline at 37Games," the executive noted.
