On December 27th, Mr. Zhang Jun, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), met with Mr. Zhang Ming, Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and Mr. Nurlan Yermekbayev, the incoming Secretary General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Beijing。

Secretary General Zhang Jun spoke highly of Secretary General Zhang Ming's contribution to the SCO and accomplishments of SCO under his leadership. Zhang Jun also congratulated Mr. Yermekbayev for his new appointment. Secretary General Zhang Jun stated that the founding purpose of the BFA is to further regional integration and common development. As the world changes and the economic landscape evolves, the BFA has been entrusted with new obligations, and commits itself to focus on Asia with a global perspective and charting course for development through fostering cooperation. The BFA vows to promote Asia's win-win cooperation and sustainable development, while advocating true multilateralism, following closely the global agenda, for a better future for Asia and the world.

Secretary General Zhang commented that the SCO is an important intergovernmental organization and a model of new international relations, and plays an important role in maintaining regional and global peace, stability and development. The purposes and mission of BFA and SCO share many commonalities, and should work together for win-win cooperation and common development. The first is to work closely together in a world of profound changes and grave challenges for a peaceful and favorable environment for development. The second is bearing in mind the big picture of the world, to forge dialogue and communications as well as rebuild trust. The third is to promote regional integration and connectivity in the Asia-Pacific, and optimize regional industrial and supply chains. The fourth is to closely further the global agenda such as the Sustainable Development Goals. The fifth is to forge synergy among regional organizations through the platform of the BFA.

Secretary General Zhang Ming affirmed the new progress of the BFA since Secretary General Zhang Jun took office. Mr. Zhang Ming introduced the five pillar of the SCO on political trust, security cooperation, trade and economic cooperation, people-to-peole and international cooperation, as well as the mechanism and enlargement of the SCO. Mr. Zhang Ming expressed that both the SCO and the BFA are playing important roles in enhancing regional cooperation and development. The SCO is ready to strengthen cooperation with the BFA in many areas, especially in promoting regional economic cooperation, trade, investment and connectivity, for concrete Asia and Europe cooperation. Mr. Yermekbayev stated as a comprehensive international organization, the SCO shares many similarities with the BFA in terms of working agenda, key areas and stakeholders. The SCO will collaborate further with the BFA in the future, leveraging their respective advantages to address new regional and global challenges.
