According to data from the Changsha Customs Authority on May 20, Hunan Province exported 1.14 billion lighters from January to April this year, a 40.4% year-on-year increase, with a total value of 730 million CNY, up 46.3%.

At a workshop of Hunan Dongyi Electric Co., Ltd., automated production lines operate at full capacity, with robotic arms swiftly assembling components. The company produces millions of lighters every day which are exported to 120 countries and regions worldwide.

In the first four months, lighter exports in Hunan mainly came from Shaoyang, Yongzhou, and Changsha. Among them, Shaoyang exported lighters worth 710 million CNY, a surge of 54.6% and accounting for 96.2% of the province's total. Meanwhile, Yongzhou and Changsha exported 27.74 million CNY and 485,000 CNY, respectively.

Hunan Province exported 360 million CNY worth of lighters to other Asian markets in the first four months, marking a year-on-year increase of 41.9%. Among them, exports to Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates were 81.756 million CNY and 49.94 million CNY respectively, with year-on-year increases of 21.8% and 43.1% respectively. Exports to African countries amounted to 210 million CNY, a year-on-year increase of 123.3%. Among them, exports to Nigeria and Libya were 74.533 million CNY and 31.152 million CNY, with year-on-year growth rates of 197.5% and 125.9% respectively.

During the January-April period, private enterprises in Hunan exported 710 million CNY worth of lighters, marking a 54.6% year-on-year growth and accounting for 96.2% of the province's total. Meanwhile, foreign-invested enterprises contributed 28.225 million CNY to the province's total export value of lighters.

The Changsha Customs Authority has advised lighter manufacturers in Hunan to fully leverage the benefits of industrial agglomeration effects, further carry out technological transformation and upgrading, and keep pace with new processes and technologies in a timely manner to promote the overall improvement and upgrading of the sector. Efforts will be made to encourage and support the cultivation and development of independent export brands of lighters, and assist enterprises in trademark and patent registration, quality standard certifications, and intelligent property protection and filings in international markets. The initiatives aim to transit the industry from competing on low-cost advantages to creating premium value-added products.
