Your friends might be asleep. Your family may not fully understand you. If you push the conversation, you might just get to hear: "Just get some sleep."
Pluto
She got home late after yet another rejected project, cried, opened her phone, and texted, not to a person — but to AI.
This popped up on the screen: "You've already done so well to come this far."
Pluto froze. Then completely broke down. That night, she and AI talked until 5 am.
Why AI?
Because talking to humans can be exhausting.
Parents might not get "stress". Friends are overwhelmed themselves. When you start to vent, one "Don't overthink" can shut you down.
By contrast, AI feels like the perfect confessional to go to: available 24/7, never annoyed, never judgmental, never tagging you as "negative".
Sarah
For Sarah, the appeal is even simpler.
"Because it has no emotions. No matter what I say, it won't think less of me," she said. At last, she could say the things she had avoided telling even herself.
Maybe AI can give you the "perfect" answer.
But often, what moves us most is imperfection — of the human kind.
Hotline volunteer Zhang Su remembers a caller who sang AI's praises, but still rang the hotline over and over.
"It's different," the caller said.
"What he wants is a real voice. Someone flesh and blood," Zhang said. "Even if that person is far from perfect."
