The Effects of Advertisements on Our Life

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! It’s great honor to deliver a speech here. Have you heard that “Things go better with Coco-Cola” or “Apple thinks different”? Have you attracted by large Advertising banners in the mall? Have you complained too many ads implant when indulging in television? advertising is everywhere and changes our life subtly, but what are the effects of advertisements on our life?

From the advertisements unearthed in the ruins of Pompeii to the developing of modern media, advertising has existed for thousands of years and keeps continuous innovation. It refers to the commercial promotion process of goods and services to increase sales. Potential consumers can be informed of the availability and feature of a product or service and encouraged to buy. Advertising can establish a brand image, which determines the status of an enterprise and products. Additionally, public service advertising motivates the public to understand non-commercial issues such AIDS, deforestation and so on.

However, some people claim that widespread advertising has side-effects on people. On the ultimate goal of attracting consumers, the businessmen may mislead consumers by exaggerated function. People will be cheated and waste money. What’s worse, the counterfeit and shoddy products may put our health even life under threat. Some advertisements are filled with pornography and corruption to attract consumers and these vulgar advertisements pollute the social environment. Some advertisements foster the bad habits of hedonism, money worship and comparison so as to lead to premature consumption, comparison consumption and passion consumption.

We embrace the advantages of advertising, but we can never ignore the negative influence. Government should strengthen the censorship of counterfeited or illicit ads, the businessmen should enhance lawful awareness and assume more social responsibilities and we can foster rational consumption habits.
