he said it himself. ‘Korea is a really difficult place to survive if you’re not pretty or handsome’.. you have to learn makeup.. etc.. so its not hard to believe why plastic surgery became a big thing there.. if the society is so obsessed with looks.. this is the result from society pressure and self insecurity.. that there isn’t many versions of ‘ beauty’.. it 100% makes things harder..

They photoshop their photos for resumes.. that should say a lot.. while other coutnries don’t’ even put a photo, some not even a name.. in order not to discriminate potential interviewees.

But i think this aspect of korea will never change.. at the end of the day.. if you’re pretty or handsome you will hve a much better life.

但我认为韩国在这个方面永远不会改变……说到底，长得好看的人就是会过得更好。

In Korea double eyelid surgery doesn’t even count as surgery these days so someone may answer that they’ve never had plastic surgery because it’s so normalized that it doesn’t even come to mind as plastic surgery. They also don’t count cosmetic enhancements like Botox to reshape calves or shoulders or chin, fillers, liposuction, and other cosmetic procedures

Funny how everyone admits plastic surgery is super common in Korea almost expected but as soon as it’s called out at the end of the video from the outside, it’s suddenly just a stereotype. Feels more like denial than misrepresentation.

Crazy how defensive they got when told about the stereotype ppl have of Koreans and plastic surgery and calling it discriminatory, I mean every person interviewed here has had at least one procedure done or thought about getting one to change their looks That just proves our point

Grateful that plastic surgery isn’t passed down genetically and in that way, Korea’s unique ethnic beauty still has a chance against being eliminated. If so many are rating themselves under 5 on a 1–10 scale, maybe it’s time to flip the scale, put 1 on top, and shift the spotlight from boosting self-editing to boosting self-worth.

庆幸整容不会遗传，这样一来，韩国独特的民族之美还有机会得以保留。既然那么多人给自己打1到10分里的5分以下，或许应该把评分标准倒过来，让1分成为最高分，把焦点从“修修补补”转向“提升自我价值”。

I think plastic surgery must be considered for the medical reasons but not to fit in the beauty standard. However, if one can boost his or her self-esteem, it’s not that bad at least for their mental health.

我认为整容应该出于医疗需求，而非迎合审美标准。不过，如果真的能因此提升自信，至少对心理健康不算坏事。
